Kubota B8200
The boot on the shifter is cracked & I need to replace it, but I can't get the knob off the top of the shifter. I can spin it, but it's not unscrewing (I'm not even sure if it's threaded). I've tried prying it off, but no go. There are no set screws holding it in. Any tips?

If this is one of the rubber type, there should be a small hole in the top. Use compressed air and blow it into that hole. The knob will come right off.

If that works it is a very neat trick. Thanks.
I always put a wooden cabinet clamp on the shaft and jack the knob off with a screw driver or pry bar using the clamp as a fulcrum. Air is much easier.

Unfortunately it's a hard knob. The cabinet clamp on the shaft is a good idea. I had tried putting a pipe wrench around the base and bopping it with a hammer and it didn't budge.

Though I don't have a shift lever, I did remove the knob from the loader joystick in order to replace the boot and shorten the shaft. Mine [7610] is a force fit -not threaded. I used a heat gun to warm it up. Once the bond was broke, I was able to pry it off while using padded vise-grips to hold the shaft.

is there a top plate on top of the shifter, you can put a small screw driver into, and pop the plate out to allow access to a bolt / screw?

is there a floor mat or like you can undo. to reveal some screws / bolts that hold the rubber boot in place? then once boot is pulled up, it reveals another bolt or pin that holds the shifter?
