How do you guys dispose of your old hydraulic oil?

I usually give mine to a friend that uses it in an old leaky log splitter. The leak always means that he'll need the next batch from me. :D

I give my used hydraulic fluid and used motor oil to my friend who owns the hydraulic repair shop I frequent. He uses it to fuel his shop furnace. I get reduced rates for work in return.

A local garage takes my used oil, they have a waste oil furnace. No antifreeze, that waits for our bi-annual hazardous waste cleanup day.

Our County Landfill takes used oil.

In central Missouri, Wal-Mart will take up to 5 gallons per day. I got rid of about 25 gallons that way. Also, Auto Zone will take used oil

I "think" here in NY any place that changes oil has to accept used oil from people - and they can't require that you get your oil changed there. I may be wrong on this, but I remember reading about it awhile back. They basically want the DIYer's to have plenty of places to take their oil so it does not end up in the ground.

Anyone know if this is true????

currenly there is a advance auto parts on the corner of my neighborhood. but when i move out the property for good, im considering storeing it all year and running an home made oil burner.

I figure between my 4 vehicals and the tractor, i could generate half of the oil i would burn a winter. THe other half i could get from friends instead of dropping at the local autoparts place.

Winter before last I burned it in my woodfurnace up in the old shed with a drip setup I fabbed up. I've since replaced the woodfurnace with a doublebarrel stove cause the furnace was just too nice to be in the shed ..... moved it down to the house. So I've been storing waste oil in a 55 gallon drum which is now full ....... so I need to start another. Eventually I would like to either find a proper waste burner or make one up myself to use as supplemental heat in the new polebarn.

My oldest kid does his own oil changes on his fleet of delivery vehicals ..... with his six trucks, plus his two cars, our two vehicals, and the tractor, ZTR, etc. it seems to accumulate fairly fast here. No sense wasting a free fuel source .... providing ya have enough of it to make it worth messing with.

In Texas generally any place that retails oil products has to accept used oil. I have a young friend that has a mobil oil change service so anytime he services one of my vehicles I give him my excess used oil.
