Kubota BX 2660 & BX-23
We have a fire running our way right now and expecting to be evacuated in a while. Pretty much ready to go when the call gets close. I have a 650 hr 2660 with a FEL and Box Blade mounted. As well, I have a 675 hr BX23 with the Bh and fel. I have both out in the side yard right now, but my wife says move one into the shop. I have opened space for one. Which should I choose? This is kinda like picking your favorite child. I have both keys in my pocket walked out into the yard and laughed. How do you choose:)

Can you put the other at a neighbour's house

If you have to evacuate I'll hazard a guess there's a possibility the house may burn. Is it not likely the shed will burn as well? A burning shed will not offer much protection. Can you evacuate your tractors to a safer location? IS there a safer location? If you evacuate that should leave space in the garage. Do you HAVE a garage? Be sure to check your insurance coverage.

Any open fields that you could scrape an area free of brush to park them.

That's a darn good suggestion. Impossible for us to know all your variables but like another guy said -- if the fire takes your area it would probably get buildings too and you might get more tractor damage inside a burning building than just sitting out in an open field.

Especially if you can use the machines to clear all the combustibles/trash/brush/weeds you can from as large an area as you can and then park the tractors in the middle.

I suppose if you had hauling capability you would have done it and not be asking us questions.

That's a terrible circumstance to imagine. Wish you well !!!

Do you consider the yard or the shop to be safer?

When the Lobo fire licked at our property's boundaries and we evacuated, I parked my tractor in the middle of a barely-grassed area with the keys in it. (incidentally, I also put all of my inflammables - cans of fuel - in the middle of the driveway circle so there'd be no surprises for the FD if they happened to be there and things caught fire).

I figured if push came to shove, someone may as well either take it or use it, and even if the fire came through there there wasn't enough grass to actually catch the tractor on fire.

As it turned out, we didn't burn (yay?) and nobody took the tractor :D

Ning, the property is clean, clean and the grass (lawn;) is long dead. It‘s dry enough that even the weeds aren’t growing. I left them both in the bare yard. I have taken the LP, gas/diesel cans out to a bare neutral corner away from anything. I’ll park the Tacoma out with the tractors.

A+
My daughter's boss had a complete loss of her house last night.
Cooler day though a red flag warning in effect till 9PM. Here's hoping the knock it down.
YubaNet is showing minimal fire activity.
I'm thinking you'll be fine at this point but I don't blame you for jitters. We were under evac orders for a number of days when our fire happened though we came back during the daytime to run generator for fridge&freezer (this was pre- solar power) every day after the first two... and had PTSD with a trigger of seeing orange lights for almost a year (you know like the high pressure sodium lights that are everywhere in towns though luckily we didn't see them that often since we're out of town for the most part).
