thanks everyone . I saw the drawbar at TS I just wasn't sure what I would use it for. I'm concerned about making a turn and having the roller hit the rear tire. I guess I'll just have to try it and see what clearance if any I have.

Bought one of those rollers and it leaked like a sieve within a year.

Be sure to keep your receipt.

Found a rental shop that has one for 20 dollars a day. I think I'll rent it. The TS draw bar seems to connect into the arms of the cat 1 3point hitch. At the end of the day will that accomplish the same think as the one Xfaxman has in his picture ?
Can you backup with one of these attached ?

Not a huge issue for the lawn roller, but 3pt trailer hitches can be dangerous. A 3pt has no down force, so in some circumstances, such as braking and/or going downhill, the trailer can push the 3pt hitch up. That can upset the center of gravity & cause a rollover, broken hitch or other issues. So using the drawbar is a safer option.

Personally I use a 3pt trailer mover a fair bit. However I'm aware of the risks & go slow on flatish ground.

No doubt the tractor's drawbar is the safer method, but using a 3PH draw bar is safe too, if you use a safety chain between a lower link and the tractor's frame. Some tractors have steel loops welded to accommodate rigging the chain. This chain limits the upward movement of the lower links.

As far as the roller (and anything you pull with the draw bar), you do need to watch clearances when you turn. It is possible to back up when necessary. If you're using the 3PH draw bar, you will need that safety chain I described above and, again, watch clearance between you rear wheels and the tow.

I use one of these:

This type is pretty versatile and not too expensive.
