How do I fix this hydraulic hose leak? Photo

I cannot seem to tighten the nut above the crimp. It is tight against the cylinder but the nut and crimp below the leak just spins. does the hose need replaced or can I just replace the fitting?

I will probably need to take it to a shop since I do not have any specialized tools.

Grip #1 tightly, you don't want this sob to move. It can and will break off in the cylinder if you let it.

Tighten #2 onto #1. Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

# 2 is really tight. I think the problem is I cannot tighten the nut next to #2, the hose just turns with the nut. Thanks for taking the time for the visual aids. They really help dummies like me!

They're suppose to, that's the 'hose to metal' crimp section.

#2 is a swivel nut cap w/ flare.

If #1 and #2 are fairly tight, you may have a cracked flare under #2.
Disassemble and inspect.

Would plumbers tape do any good? I had a fitting leak on my tractor when it was new and I didn't dare try to tighten any more than it was.....put some tape around the thread and it hasn't leaked in 5 years. Dyer, retired

I'd replace the swivel. Just a few dollars.

Either buy new hose from dealer or have one fitted up, but looks like it's the hose fitting that went bad based on description of where leak is. Hose is short money. Most tractor places can fit up a hose for you. I've even found auto parts places that have the equipment to fit up a hose. Finally, surplus center has prefab hose as well as Northern Tool. Plumbers tape will not help your problem. it's the fitting it's self that would be bad if leak is where you described.

It's a flare type seal, thread tape or any type of sealant is worthless with flares.

I don't believe his swivel/flare is replaceable short of cutting it off the hose and recrimping a new one. (Providing the hose is long enough.)

Is that a new hose you just installed, or an existing one that developed a leak?

i would as others have said, hopefully have enough length to be able to take the hose off and take to a shop and have the chop it off and put a new end on. No amount of tightening will help from what Ive heard, and the fitting and labor is cheap , and you wont have to fuss anymore.
If there is enough length be very thankful.
reminds me of electrical outlets in some house they never gave any extra wire, probably just what they could by code.
