Gents,

I've tried Google search on the map and other newfangled approaches.

I would REALLY like to secure a source of AG Diesel (an maybe ethanol free gass for my saws and mowers) locally.

My goal is to have at least a 55 gal drum onsite eventually.

But I cannot seem to find anything. Clearly I am doing something wrong.

Guide and advise me please.

Thanks in advance,
David

David,
Try contacting any of the tractor dealers near you and ask them. They most likely know or could point you to someone that does. The other is to try and see if there are any bulk fuel providers who could tell you who they deliver too.

Try to look under oil in your yellow pages, maybe something there. You may have to expand your area. The difficult thing for you is that most places have a 150 gallon minimum purchase to be considered "bulk fuel" . In our area bulk fuel, even road and sales tax free actually cost close to or more than at the pump once you factor in delivery fee, and a slew of other taxes that make up for the sales and highway. We have bulk diesel and gas. The gas is about the same price as the pump and the diesel a few cents cheaper. It is way nice just to pull up and spin the handle and not hoist a can.
Good luck
Clint

Keith,

As he was delivering my stump grinder I did just that and he gave me a couple ideas.

I also bought 10 gallons at $3.759 locally :)

Google "Farmer's Co-Op in VA".

Whether their nozzle will go into your little yellow diesel jug is another matter. You may want to take a funnel along.

How long will it take you to use up 55 gallons? More air in storage tank = more moisture.

Diesel with moisture (condensation from humidity when the ambient air temperature changes) + time = bacteria = trouble in river city (fuel filter and injectors). Neighbor that buys in bulk can probably tell you how long you can safely store deisel.

Mossflower woods-listen to this guy. It takes a lot of seat time it takes to go through 55 gallons of diesel on a hobby farm. You might be using your tractor alot now becuse it's a new toy:) but wait until the wow factor wears off.

I only put 60-70 hrs per year on my tractor with 13 acres that gets brush hogged on a regular basis and snow bladed in the winter. I buy it as I need it so I never have any problems the poster above mentioned. Plus, who knows how long that diesel has sat in those large storage tanks at your local independent ag dealer.

I have a 5 gallon can and just refill it as needed and my local gas station gets new fresh diesel in every 4-5 days and I know I am buying winter diesel in the winter because he actually post it on the pump when they change the formula from summer to winter

I'll gladly play more to know I'm getting fresh stuff. There have been more post about people having problems with old diesel on this site than just about anything.

I see you already have numerous answers, but here's a way to find a given service in a given area.

  1. Use Google Maps to find the location you're interested in. Like Ladysmith VA.
  2. Once you're looking at the map of your area, zoom in or out to get the size of area you want to consider. You don't want a fuel truck from 500 miles away!
  3. then type in your "need" or service in the Google Maps search line. In this case, search for "fuel supply"
  4. The search will return all the similar services and show their location on the map.

In Maryland (low sulfur state), I use fuel oil. (Same tank that heats the house). Been doing it for 19 years and 5-6,000 hours. Works fine.
