How difficult to remove hard cab on x740?

Hi all,

I have my eye on a used x740 with a hard cab. That cab would sure be nice in winter but I need to squeeze in some tight spaces for summer mowing. So my question is, how hard is it to remove the cab? I don't have any special equipment, but I have a sturdy barn beam that could probably(?) take the weight if I need to hoist it.

I've seen some posts claiming hours, and posts claiming "it's easy". Thanks for your thoughts!

Sounds like you know that it is possible, by other posts' claims.

Can't answer how "hard", as that varies by the different person(s) doing the work.

If you can lift the cab on the 740 that would be the way to go.

I take the doors off my 2210 run a strap through it and lift it off with an electric hoist. Takes about an hour by time I unbolt and disconnect everything. I used to completely disassemble it and carry it up the stairs in the barn but that was getting to be a hassle so a couple of years ago I started using the hoist. That cab was my best friend this past winter..

If you have friends like mine, it's as easy as splitting a 6 pack. I had a cab on a 455. After I did all the prep work, it took 3 men to lift it by hand off and on spring and fall.

Welcome to TBN! and hello from a fellow upstate NYer
if this is the curtis built cab, it isn't all that bad. they unbolt
the sides and front hardware, then pivot the cab rearwards
until it's top is resting on the ground and then unbolt the
remaining 2 bolts at the back frame of the tractor.

if it's a cozy cab, then lifting straight up is probably best.

either way, removing the doors helps.
