How come I can\'t get more then 10% off the JD 3320

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I recently asked on this forum how much I should get off of the JD 3320 MSRP. The reply was up to 20%. I live near Clifton Park, NY (Approx. 20 miles North of Albany, NY) and I went to 3 dealers within a 30 mile radius and they won't go higher then 10% off. Is this a bad time of year to buy a tractor or do I need to travel further? I have a 16' trailer if I need to venture to a less independent dealer. But where??? I"m getting pretty discouraged. The tractor I want with the attachments is about $29,000 MSRP. Any suggestions , Please help!

Looks to me like they want you to drive further... if the money saved will be worth the gas burnt on a few trips go find a dealer farther afield. Probably be a wash all things considered.

My guess is if you take one dealers printed quote to another and make the rounds you'll find out who wants to sell you a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I had a chance to talk to a great friend in the dealer network. He told me that Deere recently tightened up the margins. Dealers don't have the room that they did even a short while ago. 10% might be what is now a very good deal and 13% is awesome. 20% might actually be a sign that something is wrong.... I have no reason to doubt his word. He is half a continent away.

I'm over in Bennington, VT not too far from you. 10-12% off is the only thing I've seen around here. It'll probably be even tighter now that we're close to tractor season. I think it's just the nature of the beast in this area.

I think i have said this about a dozen times, % off list is a horrible way to determine what you should pay. Dealer terms, freight, sales allowances and incentives, setup times, etc, etc are not accounted for using that method. These things all change about every 2-3 months. What you are doing is best, call around to a few places, get their quotes, and make your choice.

I will confirm Rockyridge's information. We do not have the margin to work with any more. Some models are priced so tight, they are set to be sold at list. Sorry... I always like a nice deal too... but Deere wanted to offer a better list price, so they cut the dealer margins... Remember, a deal is more than % off.. it's finance offer (which costs the dealer) and most importantly service after the sale. Best of luck in your search. The 3020 series are great tractors.

Odd that finance offers cost the dealer, in most things (cars and such) dealers get a cut of the financing.

Not to pry but how does Deere justify charging it's dealers for making them more money?

Re: How come I can\'t get more then 10% off the JD 3320

It costs money to buy down the rate and they expect us to participate, thus the disclaimer "at participating dealerships". Plus we share in the "risk" of extending financing through a % participation, called recourse. So please understand there is no free lunch for the dealer, but at our dealership and I assume at most, we try our best to balance the entire equation to be fair to our customers as well as to the dealership. Hope this helps...

Re: How come I can\'t get more then 10% off the JD 3320

I am surprised Deere is doing this. Neither CNH or Kubota have terms with partisipation right now. Many of our shortline venders (Ferris, Cub Cadet, etc) do but I've not seen this from a major line. How have you guys been handling this? I know for us it would be a major issue.

Are you sure that they aren't? There is so much frontside/backside motion that often takes months to wash. And lotsa guys in sales never see it...
