I need to reduce the wheel base on an L4630 currently 74.6". It there another tire/wheel that I can put on the tractor that will accomplish this? Currently have industrial tires.

Meeks,

You can not change the wheelbase but if you are talking about the tread, then you will have to go to a different wheel that is two piece. Standard front tread on the L4630 is 50.2 inches - no adjustment.

You may find an aftermarket wheel that is adjustable from a company like Unverferth of Kalida OH - they specialize in wheels and tires.

Good luck!

Ag tires and rims would let you narrow the width of the tire tracks a bit.

I also wonder if the OP meant "track" and not "wheelbase".

This is the only way I know to reduce the wheelbase, and I don't really recommend it: ;)

You would have to change the location of 1 or both axles

Yup, short of putting combine tires on it to fit the hubs which is done

Thats the last time I loan the versatile to the ground hogs to fit ground for sure, 4 beers and pizza and anything they operate is a casualty loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have become hopeles as hired hands since they started working for GEICO with thier first commercial.

OH yea I took the wheelly casters off it to work on the rear and I forgot to put them back on so that matters too:thumbsup::laughing::eek:

I remember watching a Red Green episode with him building a variable-wheelbase car from a Toyota station wagon

The worst part was, I think it would actually work, although the exact purpose behind it escapes me just now

If I remember correctly, there was part of a boat trailer involved, including the loading winch :confused2:

Other than that, there's no way to change wheelbase on the tractor that I know of, narrowing or widening the track is a different thing altogether.

Meeks, I see this is your first post on TBN. Let me be the first to welcome you! I hope you will find plenty of useful information and advice here. I'm guessing you mean the width of your tractor needs to be reduced, not its length. If you look at the rear wheels on your 4630, you should see that they are two piece rims, with an inner section that bolts to the wheel hub and an outer rim to which the tire is mounted. The two sections are bolted together to make the complete wheel assembly.

If you ponder the way it is put together for a while, you'll see that you can assemble and mount it to the tractor in several different ways (For example: inner wheel cupped outward vs. inward, outer rim bolted to the inside vs outside of the inner rim, wheel mounted deep side in vs. deep side out, etc.) Each of these will give you a different width. The front wheel is simpler... there's a deep side and a shallow side to choose.

I hope that is helpful to you. If I guessed wrong and you really are seeking to shorten the tractor, since wheelbase involves the distance between front and rear wheels, not the width, then I guess some of the other posts have it covered pretty well.
