BX2200
We’ll I was rushing the season a bit and stuck the BX2200 in the mud down to its belly. (Again!) See attached photo. After much jacking, sweating, and cursing I was able to extract but I rather not repeat. Has any member attached an electric recovery winch to their compact tractor? Can the electrical system on the BX handle the draw motor for some of the lighter (3,000lbs line pull) winches? This is typically around 150 amp (12v) at full load. Any suggestions for mounting? Of course the Reese receiver method looks to be the easiest to install but has anyone mounted to the front?

Dont know about a winch, just want to know how in the world did that happen, did it hit the spot and sink like that? I would have been giving it heck too. Be glad you did not have the MMM on it, that would have just sucked the mud and held on like a suction cup. Glad you hear you got her out though.

I have an 8000 Lb self-recovery winch on my pickup truck so I know a little about winches. At full load it draws about 400 amps, and even with the engine running with my 110 Amp alternator, alarms started going off on the dashboard saying "check battery". I ended up adding a second battery to my truck in parallel with the first one to have enough reserve capacity to run the winch.
So, knowing how small the charging system is on my kubota, as well as the battery in the kubota being much smaller than my truck, I would not recommend a winch for this category of tractor. A better idea might be to put the winch on your truck (if you have one) and use it to pull out the kubota. Photo of my winch attached.

Wow - That is stuck.

I have been considering this off and on. Here is a TBN post where I asked the same question.

One guy named Don did attach a winch successfully.

I still am considering one of the smaller winches for an ATV - maybe a Cabellas branded one. I was originally looking at the Warnworks 1700 but the amperage draw seems very high compared to the ones designed for ATV recovery.

I have been in the same situation more than once, thinking my BX could NEVER get stuck.
After much cussing, hand winching, I have to bite back my pride (worse than asking for directions when lost) and call a tow truck.
Cheaper than a winch and alternator, but it does hurt one self esteem to clean up, go in the house, and make that call.
I am now much more careful, and I have found that when getting stuck is approaching, I have one chance to engage the differential lock, place the bucket down, and lift and curl the bucket at full throttle backwards. Has worked every time since I figured out that I have that one shot at it.
It sure is an unpleasant situation to put it mildly.

I have been thinking of doing the same, only with a hydraulic winch. Not sure of the specs of the BX, but you should be able to find something that will work.

“how in the world did that happen”

To bury my tractor this deep was cause primarily by a Maine winter, with record amounts of snow, and operator error. In the early spring, while the surface of the ground may look solid, there lies a layer of oozing liquid muck a few inches down just ready to pounce upon the reckless. Its one of those things where I really have no defense. I know better but did it anyways hoping that my luck will hold out.

I’m looking at some newer winches designed for ATVs with low amp draw but they seemed to limited to around 3,000 lbs. Too bad there’s no front mounted winch kit for the BX. Looks like I’ll need to get one fabricated at a local welding shop.

I stuck mine to the frame a lot in the fist 50 hours. My plot is not large 10 acres so hike back up to the house and get my jeep. I have been using a come-a-long to pull mine out with little effort. The only time I dig mine out is when the BB is digging in or the hitch is holding it from coming out. I would say an atv winch would be a good choice, If you go witha full size hydraulic winch they are very large. I don't know if they make a short drum hydro which would be better but still large compared to an ATV winch.

A much cheaper alternative is to get a come along winch...I use this to get my 4x4 out of the muck every now and again...My truck is over 4000 pounds so i dont see a problem for it to get your bx out...They are hand operated so they take longer than ur electric or hydraulic winches...but they dont put any load on your engine or battery system. You can also get a hi lift which is similar to a come along winch but is also a jack...where u stretch it out all the way and hook cables up to both ends and compress the jack....I attached a picture of both that i found on the internet...The top one is a come along winch and the red thing in the middle is a hi lift...

It did look like it kind of sunk all at once, rather than front first. Man I feel for you.

Your mention of the ice reminds me of those that drive on frozen lakes, but my sense of adventure is not that brave. Glad it all came out ok.
