How awesome is it to have a dump bed in your truck??

I have been dreaming about having a dump bed since I bought my 15 acres. I find it such a waste of energy to shovel a load of mulch, gravel, manure, etc. out of a truck bed. It would be so much easier to dump it in a nice pile then use the tractor to put it in place. It just seems SOOOOOO much more efficient/less work. I have a line on a nice newish dump bed insert for $2000 to add to my F-250. While I don't really have the $2000 to spend I think this is too good of a deal to pass up. I feel like a dump insert is not only an invaluable resource for a property owner it is one of those things that taken good care of will not lose much value. I understand a 3/4 ton truck is not ideal for hauling tons of material, but it is what I have at the moment. Eventually I will find a decent 4wd 1 ton to put it in and I will be set.

If you treat your dump trucks anything like I do the bed sides will be junk in short order. A dedicated dump bed is way better. But yes a dump truck is a very handy tool.

I think the dump bed would be nice but it is hard on the truck. One touch with the front bumper of the tractor as you load the truck and it will cost another $2000 to repair the truck. Plus there is the weight of the dump bed in your truck. The gas mileage and payload will be reduced. Unless you are hauling every day a dump trailer would make a better choice. Leave it at home when not needed, no extra weight in the truck and better gas mileage without the worry of hitting the side of the truck when you are loading.

I have an F250 with an insert dumper but it is only used for moving material.

Keep in mind your deck height will be about 8 inches higher with the insert and make using a pickup in the traditional sense a bit more difficult.

I also have a single axle dump truck. (my baby)

Get a dump trailer. Can hold more volume and weight and will be used for all sorts of things. They are out there in all sizes and price range. I have been looking at dump trucks but because I need the towing capacity of the bigger truck.

Think of it as exercise! I'm 68...going right now to pick up a load of straw bales, then a load hay bales. I always do two at a time.
Exercise is good for you...and I recently had surgery on one arm.

How much does a dump insert weigh? It seems like it would counter quite a bit of the capacity of the truck.

Me too and I already have 2 dump trucks. But I’ve been told I have an addiction to dump trucks.

I have one. Like everything in life it has its limitations.

The lower dumping height makes your dumped load more spread out. Not good got stockpiling if that is important to you.
