After some work on my transmission I noticed the clutch is very different. Mechanic says he did nothing to the clutch. I suppose that's possible but the clutch is fully engaged at about 1 inch of pedal travel. At 16 or 1800 on the tack that's approaching whiplash. There is about a sentence or so about free travel in the would be owners manual with a picture of some rods and linkage. Is the free travel what I want to adjust. I'm assuming that means the amount the pedal rises before the tractor moves.

How do make that distance a little more like two inches maybe?

Thanks.

Ron

Free travel is the other end: how much depression (from fully out) before engagement starts/ends. Your owner's manual should tell you how to adjust, or with a little inspection of the rods you should be able to figure it out. you want it to be kind of "floppy" for the first inch or so of travel. This will help keep you from riding the clutch.
