Snakes seems to be a source of interest, including to my cat. I don't let her out loose, as she's not "street smart", but she did find this snake in the yard when I had her out on her lead, and she was eager to do something with/to it. I'm thinking (and hoping) it was just a garter snake, I don't think there are any poisionous snakes in Nova Scotia. :) YouTube - Molly and the Snake :licking:

Did your cat get bit? I could not get a good look, but I think it was poisonous. Keep an eye on her for any swelling.

I'm pretty sure she didn't get bit. I have since double-checked and all the info I could find confirmed there are no poisonous snakes in Nova Scotia.

My cat wouldn't come out from under the bed a few years ago. So I finally got a flashlight and saw that she had a garter snake cornered up against the wall. I have no clue how the snake got in the house.

LOL! I had to drag mine away from this one, she was sure intent on staying right there "playing" with it. :D

I had three thoughts while watching this video:

1. I have never seen a cat on a lead before!
2. Venomous snakes know how to strike. That much time, your cat would have been bitten. The snake in the video kept going after the cat, but nothing happend. If it was a bad snake, once and done.
3. If your cat was bitten by a venomous snake, your cat probably would have been dead by the time you uploaded your video to U-Tube.

Glad to see your kitty is OK.

By the way, I have taken my family to Nova Scotia on vacation twice. We love it there!

Here's a link to pictures of the five species of snakes in Nova Scotia.

Name that Snake - How to Identify Them!

Looks like a garter. Our garter snakes don't look like that.

And, we had a cat that walked on a leash. He thought he was a dog. We used to walk into the vet's office with him on one leash and our two dogs on other leashes. We got some looks.

You're right, Moss, it was a garter snake - a p-o'd one, but a garter snake nonetheless :). I taught the cat to walk on a lead as I don't want her to wander - many coyotes, foxes, and eagles around here, not to speak of a highway truck route around 800' away from my house that attracts her like a magnet, the 2 times I did let her loose. The neighbours have lost 2 cats to eagles - they saw one being carried off.:confused2:

Now she's like a dog on the leash - I rattle it and she comes running to go out. And she still catches mice, chipmunks and snakes, but she always lets them go alive, no real killer instinct.

Yeah, that's the way our house cat was. If a mouse got in the house he would play hockey with it, carry it around, etc... but never kill it. One time, however, he was at the back door all happy and proud of himself (you know that "special" meow) that he killed a mouse. What really happened was somehow the mouse was trying to go in or out of the house and someone had closed the door on it, right in the hinge area, so it got flattened like a pancake. The next time someone opened the door, the cat found it. I'm sure he thought he killed it. We didn't tell him any different.
