Are the hour meters on Kawasaki Mule 4010, year 2018, tamper-proof?

I see a lot of older ones for sale with very low hours.

Funny....look at the used hour meters for Mules for sale on ebay. Some are 1500 to 2500 hours. Why would anyone buy a used one? If it still works, why did it get replaced? Never trust a hour meter. A person could have ran it for 10 years with the wire disconnected too.

Yeah, my 1986 Ford 3910 has less than 50 hours on it. :ROFLMAO:

But honestly, it didn't have a dash when I bought it. It did have an aftermarket hour meter someone stuck into a 2" hole they drilled into the rear panel. But you couldn't read the numbers on that. When I restored it, I put a new dash in it and fixed all the wiring.

No idea if the hourmeter is tamperproof...but I've seen several side by sides for sale around here that were 10 years old and low hours/low miles. I'm talking like less than 500 miles in 10 years. Owners just weren't using them; for long periods of time they weren't used at all. That's probably not good for the engine/drivetrain either.

More important than some random number on an hour meter that is easily replaced is the overall condition of the UTV.

I would also suggest avoiding 'barn queens' and would prefer one with some honest usage to keep everything fresh and rust-free.

A 10 year-old barely used MULE or any other vehicle is apt to have rust in the gas tank, exhaust system, transmission, etc. And, does everything move freely and are the rubber components still flexible in good condition?

If the hour meter is a stand alone meter, it's easy to replace it with a new one with zero hours on it.

If it's integrated into the instrument cluster as it is on my Honda Pioneer 700, that'd be much more expensive to replace and also difficult to roll back.

Years ago I looked at a used car on a lot, sign said 37,000 original miles. Sure enough odometer read that (1971 cars went to 99,999.9 then 0). It was believable, except pedals worn a bit. In glove box was a bunch of inspection receipts showing 40k,50k, etc. then started over. I pointed it out to lot owner...he threw receipts away & removed sign.
