Hot Ignition Switch --4300

Good afternoon --

I was out box blading my driveway this morning and, when I came in for lunch, my fingers touched the ignition switch when I turned the key off. The switch was very, very hot. I have do no testing yet nor have I looked in the workshop manual. My guess is that I either have a loose connection at the switch or the push in heating element for the cold start function is sticking -- probably the latter.

However, I thought that I would post to the list to see if anyone has experienced this problem.

A hot to the touch switch is either passing more cirrent than it is rated for ( or for a longer duration / duty cycle than specified ).. or it has a bad connection.. get this looked at.. the switch will die in short order usually.

My 4300 did this as well... for about 3 years.
Currents within normal.
Got rid of tractor prior to any problems.

Never did figure it out.

Bad / loose contacts creat higher resistance then there should be in the key switch.. this resistance means a voltage drop and power disipation ( watts ).. IE.. HEAT.. Simple ohms law / 1st year electronics stuff at work here ..

Wow, Two Years Ago, my friends 4300 burned to the ground. It sat parked at a house he was landscaping and eventually went up in flames. He had left the machine there for about 4 days since last using it... for no rhyme or reason the machine just caught fire, more likely an electrical fire.... I wonder if this is how his fire started..... better get that checked out... especially if you keep your machine indoors... I'd rather lose a tractor than my whole garage, or attached house.... luckily his tractor was outside in the wide open, on his clients side lawn. After bickering with the insurance company they finally paid up.... he used some of that money to get a JD 110 TLB two years later...
