Ford N/H 1215 compact, 4wd, 7106 loader. Has anyone had a problem with excessively hot hydraulic oil? Is there a heat exchanger that would work with this model?

It already has one for the oil. You could replace that with a bigger, generic one, but I would be looking at why it is excessively hot. I get it that it may be extra hot in Petaluma, but there may be another reason such as the cooler fins are blocked OR there is a valve that is stuck that is causing the hydraulic oil to heat up. Also, what is the temperature of the oil?

Agreed with the TractorTech. Diffy housing is a big heat sink as the hyd fluid collects there and can heat exchange easily with the cast iron. where do you feel the temp? at the pump? how about the inlet and outlet to the pump. use a non contact IR temperature gun to measure to compare and contrast with the rear diffy housing. Do you notice more in high ambient or lower ambient temp? Got to find thew root cause first.

@JC-jetro, good point on heat sink, but the rear axle is cast aluminum, so it would really exchange heat.

Oh Okay, did not know that. Like you said even better for heat transfer. My 1700 is all cast iron as the magnetic tray sticks to the back as far as I remember. I have to check it again as you sowed the seed of doubt in my statement.:)

If the 3PH lever is up all the way and the feedback is not adjusted correctly the relief valve has to function as an unloader as well, dumping flow when a cylinder is deadheaded, and it's not always obvious.

BTDT on my first Ford/NH CUT and hydro oil got hot in just minutes of operation.

Verified the issue by hearing system go into relief as the 3PH neared the top of its travel. With the lever ~ 1/2 way up things were fine. I used the stop to limit upward vs downward lever movement until the adjustment was corrected.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Recently had both bucket tilt cylinders serviced because of leaks. My mechanic thought seals showed signs of heat damage. Age could also be a factor. I will check oil temp with IR gun. I think I read where 140 degrees would be an upper limit.
