Working on an International Bucket Truck w/Altec boom......one of the lines at the operator station bucket has broken and someone recommended a "hose field repair hydraulic fitting"..........I have a few, but have never used. I realize they're generally considered "non permanent" repairs, but can someone comment on expected longevity.

You mean cutting the hose and installing typical hydraulic male/female couplers? If they are installed/crimped properly, I can’t see why it wouldn’t last many years.

My 70's electric forklift had those fittings on the side shift circuit. I didn't have any issues with those fittings. The only reason I went away with them was because I needed to replace the hoses and it was just cheaper to use crimp on fittings.

I've also used those fittings on other projects without any issues. They're very handy to just build the hose on the spot and get going.

Not couplers, but a 2 part connection fitting. Male or female pipe coupling on one end, your choice. Basically, you screw a nozzle with very fine threads into the (cut off) end of the hose followed by a reverse threaded cap that clamps the hose to the nozzle internally. They are re-usable, too. I've found them handy for that occasional blowout that occurs when a hose gets trapped or snagged and gets cut at the crimped fitting end.

I see them on Amazon, NAPA, etc. typically 15 - 20 bucks.

But you are in a bucket and probably NOT wanting an unexpected blowout, so I'd call it a temporary repair and buy a new hose to replace the bad one(s).

My personal experience with these types of fitting is completely positive. They must be installed carefully though. I have see guys screw the fitting into the hose at an angle and before it straightens out it carves a chunk of rubber from the inside of the hose. This chunk then circulates until it clogs something.
