I have a gas valve tig torch i acquired from a family member and am scratching my head trying to figure out how to attach it to my powerarc 200st, i know i need to buy a male dinse connector. Whats got me confused is the torch has a single hose running to it no wire i can see, but it feels like there is one inside the rubber hose. That hose runs back to a copper/ brass splice that has what looks like a terminal lug on it and arc marks. Am i correct in assuming i attach my lead to that brass lug? I have no experience with tig torches and setup. About all that i do know is that this torch assembly exists and is a 200 amp unit beyond that i have no clue how to hook it up

Do you have a power block? This is the Tig rig set up I use with my PowerArc 200ST.

There are several ways you could do this. As requested, a picture would help.

Should just be able to replace the lug with a dinse plug and hook hose to regulator. Many different torch configurations out there but the newer style is power cable and gas hose only.

Heres 2 pictures that hopefully will help describe what I'm working with, i was told today this unit was used with an engine drive before i got it. It has a victor flow regulator on the other end, im unsure the brand of the torch itself. Are tig consumables pretty interchangeable? And after doing some more fooling with the torch itself it feels like theres a wire inside the hose, i assume i can make a lead that attaches to the brass lug and put a male dinse plug on the other end to get power to the torch from my welder

That in fact is exactly what i have, so i should be able to copy your setup and have it work. What gauge is the wire you use to connect the welder to the power block?

I use 2/0 welding leads. I cut the stinger, and ground clamp off the leads that come with the welder and use Tweco lead connectors.

Just take your stick stinger and hook it up to negative, then connect the tong end to tab with the hole in it on the power block. You can insulate this connection by sliding an old glove down with one finger slightly cut out for the cable and dinse connector to run through over this. You are then good to go.

I also use my stick welder leads to simply connect to the power block on the manual tig so no need to buy anything at all if you have that power block lug. I find me an old plastic bottle in a size I like (e.g 2 liter pop or 1 liter pop) and cut the bottom out of it and slide the cap opening over the tig hose and then slide the bottle cut open end over where where the stinger connects to the power block as a crude insulator just for safety sake. I always use the stick weld stinger on the power block connection and that leaves my ground clamp still free for the clamp to the metal being welded connection just like always. I do the polarity flip with the dinse connectors at the welder.
