I didn't plan it this way, but it seems I am now amongst the retired TBN crowd.:D:D:D I'm so happy, I'm almost beside myself. This morning I got up and don't have to drive 70 miles to be miserable for 8 hours, and 70 miles back home feeling like I've taken a beating all day long. Last Friday, I went to work and resigned on the spot. Whew! What a relief. The only good thing about that place was the salary and a lot of the folks I worked with. No salary is worth killing myself with stress, and those coworkers will always be my friends. So, there was no reason to stay any longer.

My finances are in order and I will probably see if I can't find something to do locally to supplement my retirement anyhow. I can't apply for Social Security for another year at age 62. If I find something I like, I may work until I'm 66 before applying for SS. My local school district needs school bus drivers, so I just may do that. Driving a bus in rural areas should be fun.

So, I'm gonna enjoy myself for a few days and may take a short trip with my wife just for fun. Heck, I may go look up Bird and buy him breakfast some morning soon or go find Harvey and get in his way on one of his jobs. If I get really energetic, I may go down and inspect txdon's new entrance. ;) :D

This is gonna be fun!:)

Outstanding. Life is way to short not to enjoy the journey. I am blessed with a job I enjoy, but I am still looking forward to being part time in two and a half years.

Glad to hear of someone who quit the rat race for the right reasons and is planning to kick back to smell the roses.

Congratulations on your retirement. I retired from the military in 1997 at 42, it was fun for a few years then got very boring at that age. I've been driving school bus for 9 yrs in a rural area and trust me the only time it's fun is when there are no kids on it. Your on the road by 6 a.m. in blizzards, rain, fog, which is still kind of fun until you pick up that first kid. Now I have a good bunch respect works both ways, but you would be shocked to see and hear whats going on with kids nowadays. If they would publish videos from some of the buses you wouldn't believe these are kids you know or even your own.

Enjoy your retirement! Put out an extra large garden next year and post plenty of pics for us again.

Congratualtions! Sounds like fun. I've got 10 years to before I can officially retire from the FD and am already planning for it.

Good Luck!

Congrats!!

I retired from the Army in 2001 and went back to work as a contractor. I turned in my notice and have 4 days until I quit again. This time I'm staying quit......well maybe.
