honda 6522
Good afternoon! I recently acquired a Honda 6522 tractor (vintage 1995/96) that runs very well and is in reasonably good condition. i do have a question regarding the hydraulic system for the front bucket. In order for it to operate I have to raise the rpms way up to raise or curl the bucket. I believe it should operate with the engine rpms at least a little above idle. All speeds work fine as well as the four wheel drive system. Also see that the rear pto seems to operate perfectly. I've changed the transmission fluid and filter with no improvement. Is it possible that there is an adjustment to the valve assembly that can compensate for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should prob get the owners manual. That cant be a very normal tractor.

I know on my kubota from 1990 has a valve that basicly turns off the flow to the loader. Not that that helps you.

Nyone, I didn't think this was a normal tractor either! The entire system runs on transmission fluid. That's the reason I'm thinking that there may be an adjustment for the loader valve assembly. Everything else seems to operate correctly. I have most of the manual and did not find anything related to the hydro system regarding the loader valve assembly. Haven't been able to get any help from Honda on this either. I'm going to try and find a hydraulics forum and see if someone there has any ideas. Thanks for the response!

The loader should operate at idle, although slower than at higher RPM.

Does the 3 pt work good or it's also slow? How many hours on the machine?

Nedbrod, if your loader is a model FL6555 for Honda H6522 (A4), CLICK HERE FOR THE ONLINE OPERATORS MANUAL if you don't already have it. You can also download it free from there by clicking on the green download button at the top and going through their "I am not a bot" test.
Page 46 in troubleshooting says:
Problem: Slow or erratic lift.
Possible cause: Engine RPM too slow (Hydraulic pump RPM too slow).
Correction: Increase engine speed to obtain satisfactory loader operation.
May just be how this system works on your tractor.

Its specs on tractor data show its got a decnt size pump and i found a parts diagram showing aux ports that must run to the loader.
Some where there must be a bypass valve if its not a open center system. Thats where i would start after confirming it dosnt have a bypass valve that you manualy need to move when the loader is removed.

This might be it. Some sort of diverter valve. Maybe something touched it and it's hallway open/closed causing this issue.

I guess it could be as simple as your loader valves not fully throwing also.

Thanks guys for all the info and direction to look into. I'll be downloading the manual as Gator recommended and look for the possible diverter valve. I have no idea how many hours are on the machine but I'd say its quite a few based on the wear on the front edge of the loader bucket. The three point hitch works fine at all speeds so the possibility of a partially closed diverter valve has some real merit. Won't be home this weekend so I'll be checking on it next week. I'll let you all know what I find (or don't find)! Thanks guys!
