300$ for these ? good lord thats a lot of money! I think i can achieve the same thing with a couple hours of work and some scrap steel

Did a quick design in photoshop, printed, cut out and then traced a pattern onto 3/16th sheet.
Of course i didn't bother to scale / dimension everything perfectly to fit within 50",so a quick adjustment was made :)

Cut it out with my plasma and went over it with my grinder to smooth & bevel the edges.

I suspect the factory built jobs are made of hardened steel. Let us know how yours holds up.

Good point, i would think so.
Upon examining the website the steel used was only described in further detail as "serious"
BXpanded

I should have done this in 1/4"+ but i'll see how it holds up

Nice effort, but I can't imagine 3/16" sheet is going to hold up well for long. I think the Piranha is like 1/2" or so.

I just took a flashlight, went out and tried to measure the thickness of mine in the dark and it appears to be 1/2" thick.

I think you just wasted a good piece of 3/16" steel. That is going to bend real easy. I am sure the piranha is of hardened steel similar to the cutting blade on the FEL and at least 1/2" thick. If I were making one, I would use a FEL bolt on blade and cut the piranha "teeth" into it. I doubt you will make it for much less than the $300 if you count your labor into the equation even if only $10 per hour.

I wonder how much carbon "serious" steel contains?;)

IDK, but after > 2 years of digging up tree stumps, roots, brush, and large rocks, spreading, dragging, and digging gravel out of piles packed by a year's worth of upstate new york weather; regrading a pond bank filled with granite and limestine rocks amid other glacial debris, the only change we see in ours is that the finish paint is worn on the highest wear areas.

We are well pleased!

PS: to the OP, with all due respect to your efforts, the fit and finish your copy displays illustrates why the real BXpanded PTB is a great value at the stated price of $229 + reasonable shipping. Harry's post sale commitment to service and support is also serious value added!

Agreed, I just got a piranha and this thing is a beast. Also, Harry is a great guy and the turnaround time on my order was super quick

Is this the Build It Yourself Forum or the Buy It Yourself Forum. I'm confused :D
