I'm having trouble finding a set of chain gaurds for my tiny(36")
rotary cutter. Has anyone made their own? Crazy question: will rubber flaps work, or do I need chains?
thanks guys!

Tony,
I've made the chain guards for my KK and posted pics on TBN. Search chain guards and look at the pics.
My latest one has been made with recycled round baler belting. I sold my mower with one of my tractors that had the chain guards and got another new KK so I tried the baler belting method this time. Works great that way too. I actually like the baler belting method a little better, especially when its dry like now. It makes the dusty stuff say in the mower and shoot out the back rather than at me on the tractor.
Either way will work out.

oops! I forgot to ask...how did you attach the belting?
thanks

I'm interested in how you put the belts on also. I put baler belts on mine a couple of years ago, but the attachment has been the number one problem.

I welded 3 six inch long angle irons off the front of the deck. One on each end and one in the middle. Across the bottom of them I welded a 5' long angle iron with one angle vertical and the other facing the rear horizontally. I cut the 5-6" wide baler strips 5'long and then held plumbers strap (thin metal strips with holes sold in rolls) over the top of the baler belt. I drove self tapping sheet metals crews first through the plumbers strap, through the baler belt and into the angle iron. I did this on the front as well as the top surface to enclose the front of the mower. When I bring my digital camera home from school I will post pics. Hopefully tomorrow night.

That would help. I am a little dense sometimes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree with Jerry! If you get a chance, I'd like to see pics of your set-up.
Thanks!

I took a good look at my mower... looks like very little clearance between the blade tip and the front of the mower(side nearest me and the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ) So, it seems to me that a chain guard --or anything else--might easily be pushed into the blade as I'm moving forward? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Do most mowers have more clearance up front?
Dumb question: do I need to have the opening on the front side of the mower, or can I bolt some sort of cover over it? The underside of my tractor just got zinged by a small rock while mowing... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
luckily, it wasn't my head!!! I've decided not to mow again until I have some sort of guard in place.
