Homemade grader \"Ugliest Implement Award\" winner

I was inspired by some recent posts here on TBN to try my hand and welder at putting together a grader to work on the mile and a half gravel road I live on. It's not pretty, and it wound up costing over two hundred bucks, but it works way better than I could have hoped. The old Farmall really snorts when it digs in, too.

willfick,
Hey, don't sell yourself short. Two questions:
Does it meet its intended purpose? ( The old Farmall really snorts when it digs in, too.) That means it is doing some digging, so, it does work.
and
Was it fun to build? ( ...it wound up costing over two hundred bucks...)
That may have been the worst part of the fun.
( It's not pretty...)
"Pretty" comes with lots of practice and possibly a lot more green. But, truthfully, is any implement "pretty"? They are meant to be utilitarian, not aesthetically pleasing. You want pretty, try a poodle with the goofy trim job and pink bow ties! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks good. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It would also work as a cultivator.

I keep thinking about something very similar but much simpler for cultivating. A Rodweeder without a rod that turns.

Many years ago my father built a similar horse drawn implement for cultivating thistle patches.

Doesn't matter what it looks like mate, as long as it does the job.

Truly a thing of beauty. I love it when someone can put together something that works and gets the job done. The only difference between your masterpiece and the big buck implements is paint. I saw a home brew similar to yours but on a much larger scale at a construction site and had to stop the car so I could hopefully get a little inspiration for a similar project that has been floating around in my mind. Yours is much more feasible for anything I would need. I do not really need one but like the concept and like to make things.
Thank you for sharing.

Paint! What a plan!
I've got a half a can of Farmall red left over, and most of a can of yellow. Several partial cans of black - some gloss, some flat. And some brown rust cover primer. Whoo hoo!

How much would a new one cost? Hmmm.... starting to look a lot prettier! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice job. How about a front and rear picture, too?
