Hey guys i'm building a homemade 40" 16hp pull behind atv brush cutter. I am going to use it of food plots for deer hunting. It will be cutting some small saplings 1/2"or less but mostly grass. It`s to tight of a trail to get my tractor in their so i`m building a small one for my ATV. anyhow i am looking for the proper RPM the blades should turn so i can figure my belt ratios i need to make cut efficiently?

I've seen 11-16k feet per minute blade tip speed advertised, work backwards from there. If you anticipate rocks and stumps you'd probably want swinging blades.

I figured 12000 feet per second blade top speed when I built an 8 foot 3 blade mower. I used trailer axle hubs and had 6 spindles made at a local machine shop. Figured I could use the extras for spares. Traded the mower to an electrician so i never got to run it. He was happy with it.
