Homelite trimline weedeater

My gas weedeater Homelite is throwing out blue smoke then suddenly dies out. I turn it back on and it starts then about 1 minute it dies again. Also i hear a loud crackling sound near the engine. I see also black oil coming out near the engine. Please help!!

No offense but,there is no substitute for a good commerical grade weed trimmer. It will cost more but, will last longer.

Sounds like one or more of the cylinder bolts may be loose. time to see your locale mechanic.

What weedeater do yall recommend for a fast start and straight cuts?

I have a husky 326 Lx & a maruyama Let 260. Both commerical grade & great trimmers. You can purchase on line.

I used to have a homelite weedeater and blower. I was happy to get $10 each in a garage sale.

I now have one like this Stihl without the easy2start. It is amazing having to use the kill switch to turn off the motor. For ease of starting, they now make the unit with easy2start. In short, you pull the cord in a slow steady motion, when it stores enough energy in a spring it releases it to start the motor.

Echo and Huskvarna makes good units also. I have never used them so I am not recomending them. There are plenty of people here who have used them and do recomend. They should also have something like easy2start.

Unless the cylinder is badly scored, it just needs fixing. I have been using 2 $88 IDC, (now Ryobi), line trimmers for over 15 years at 2 different locations, good as any. I would start by removing the muffler and making sure it's not plugged. You can check for cylinder scoring at the same time. Of course, you have to make sure all bolts/screws are tight.
