There are only a few of these in use. Members like DDT who had one aren't active anymore. I'm looking for a report from folks that had or may still have one.

Hoelscher Commercial Products - DB Scraper

Ashland makes a 2 yard but I don't think anyone "here" ever had one.

For those who don't know, a dirt pan is a type of scraper that tips to eject the dirt it scrapes up. The model I'm asking about allow a 35hp utility tractor to move more dirt, faster and farther than a Deere 450 dozer.

A friend has aquired some land and a utility tractor. He wants a box blade to move some dirt, cut and fill type. I know what a pan can do and am pushing him to hunt one down.

Here is a Dirt Pan thread I started in January 2013. $6,000 new price put me off.

Your need for moving earth in quantity may be greater than mine.

Note: Then I had a Kubota B3300SU. Now I have a much heavier Kubota L3560.

I still kind of like the theoretical and cheap idea of using FEL bucket in combination with a 30" Pond Scoop on the Three Point Hitch.

Sorry guys. I was hoping to get someone who has one to sound off about how it has done.

I have a 5yard machine that I pull with a Case7120. (20000# and 160hp)

If you have read RG LeTourneau's book "Mover of Mountain and men" (something to that effect and I don't think I even have his name right) a fondness for scrapers.

My neighbor has something like that. 2 yard pull scraper. Around 5' wide, probably less. Will stop his M7000something dead if you get aggressive at all. Loaded that's 10-12,000lbs & 70hp or so.

Performance will depend on tractor traction and the type of dirt that is being loaded.

Performance a good clay & rocks would would not be good. If the clay is wet if you do get it loaded the chances of dumping it may not be so good. Clay can get real sticky.

If the neighbour can fill the bucket on his tractor by driving straight ahead cutting about three inches the scraper may work.

This may be more what you have in mind. Name brand is Overland Scraper. It was made in California, and made to be pulled with N series Fords. It holds approx. 1 yd. of dirt heaped. I have pulled it with my Super C Farmall, barely skimming to fill it. All my Ford 2000 wants behind it. I had an old Farmall M with a M&W .060 over bore kit in it, and 3 pt., and 200 lbs. of front weight, that pulled it best. I pulled it with the Massey 180 I had, and hooking in too deep, I rode with the front wheels off the ground about 18", until I stopped & backed up, and lifted it some. With no trucks under the front end, and a lot of draft, you can be looking up at Jesus, in a heart beat.

I have a Fast Hitch subsoiler for the Super C's, that I rip 8" to 10" deep, about 18" apart, then just try to cut 2" at a time with the scraper, and it will fill it, running over pretty quick. I've moved a lot of dirt with it over the years. When dumping, you have to trip it, then lower to get the cutting edge to catch enough to roll it up in the dump position, then raise a bit. It has a notch in the 1/2 dump position, you can grade your fill with. Does a dandy job of grading the drive too, cutting the high center, and spreading to the low spots.
