Hit reply and \"My Home\" pops up.

While in the oil section I noted that in my attempt to reply to a thread all I could do is get "My Home". Is this a new method for closing a thread? As always, confused, /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, Mr /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif to you!

That happens when a thread is closed. I usually don't frequent the oil forum (too many people that are too passionate about something that doesn't matter, IMHO). I just looked tonight and the first four threads listed are closed.

Hmm... You don't notice much, do you? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's been like that for a very long time now. One thing I always do is mouse over the Reply button and look at the address that appears at the bottom of the browser. If it shows the login link I know the thread has been closed. I do wish, though, that when they close a thread, that the Reply button would change to a Closed text. Would that be possible? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have very infrequently ever been around closed threads. While the oil stuff is pretty silly in my opinion, the closed thread was as tame as could be. I'm a bit confused why it would be closed so quickly, but then, as has been mentioned many times, I don't own the place, I can always change the dial and move on. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif RaT.......

I don't generally hang around closed threads either - but here I am looking at a thread about closed threads !! gotta get a life /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep them moderators sometimes are a little drunk with power. But the overall quality of the TBN culture benefits from it. One weak spot in the instant communication age is inadequate reflection time before hitting the "post" button.

Re: Hit reply and \"My Home\" pops up.

Hmmm.

I would think that the phrase "drunk with power" is a little strong. The moderators we have do an incredible job on more than 900 posts every day, and should be given a little bit more respect by everyone. Though I realize I can't dictate good manners to people.

Muhammad and I have defined what we want them to do to keep the forum and are aware of every thread closed, every post removed, and every pm sent. It may appear odd to some people why things are closed before they get out of hand, but we have had experience running and posting on many forums. All it takes is a little bit of trouble, then it becomes a lot of trouble, and then you have hundreds of posts a day that are nothing but trouble.

I believe the usefulness of TBN comes from the fact that we have pretty strict moderation, and that's always been the case, even when Muhammad was the only one doing the moderation.

So don't take things personal. Realize that there is often a good reason behind what happens. And if you do have a real gripe with something that's been moderated, PM Muhammad.

I agree about the moderators, but you have to admit, sometimes it does add a little spark every now and then to the countless "About to pull the trigger .... or My BX has gas..." posts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
