2013 John Deere 3038e
Hi Guys,

My names Josh from Perth, Western Australia, I have just ordered a 2013 3038e with a FEL including a 4 in 1 bucket, hood guard, cruise control, canopy (to keep the aussie sun from burning me to a crisp) and a 4'6" Rotary slasher for my paddocks. It should arrive from the east coast in a few weeks. I am so excited :D

I will be mainly using it to tend to our horse paddocks, cut firebreaks, do some minor landscape around our block, move dead trees, road maintenance and clean up, and loader work. I look forward to learning lots of tips and tricks from browsing the site.

Cheers

Josh

Yeah we are taking on a pretty big project over the next few years to build our dream home and our dream horse property. We figure as our block is a blank canvas so to speak having the right machine will save us a lot of money paying contractors and mobilisation costs of their machinery to our site, it also means things we would usually put off as too hard you can do with the tractor.

The first thing I need to do is get the site cleaned up, get the levels right then do some small cut and fills and some small retaining walls for our round yard, dressage arena ect, prepare a site for the stables, my shed, roughly prepare the house pad to save on siteworks later on, clear the area for the dam (pond) and then get a big digger in to dig the actual dam itself and someone to drill the bore (well). The good news is we live next door to our block so there's always lots I can do... I can't wait to get started :)

Cheers

Welcome mate! There are a handful of Aussies on this forum. I don't want to think how much it costs to ship a tractor half way around the world. It costs our friends in Alaska a premium to buy Deere products up there. Best of luck to you. post some pictures so you can keep a log of before and after all of your hard work. Just remember, time spent tractoring doesn't detract from the end of your life as long as you do it safely. Take it easy at first. Be careful of slopes and muddy conditions on those drainage areas. Use your seatbelt when leaning over.

Thanks for the heads up Kyle, I am a big fan of looking after myself and I love that you guys have a whole separate forum based on safety issues and advice and not the whole "git-er-done" attitude you see in a lot of other circles.

Hi Josh! Welcome to TBN. I had a great time in Perth/Fremantle back in 1980 when my ship docked there for a week. I just cannot tell you how nice it was to meet so many nice people. I hope you find the forums very helpful. There are lots of JD experts and people with experience in almost everything imaginable here on TBN; lots of your Aussie mates hang out here too.

And I am not usually the "safety hall monitor", it's just that I'm actually thinking back and counting myself lucky for some nice blokes warning me before I jumped off the deep end.

Wow, looking at google earth, WA is HUGE! It is like half the continent. are you near a coast? northern, western or southern? Big state (if that is what you call it).

Oh, dummy me. I see you actually put Perth in your location. Many newbies seem shy about stating their location. Sorry.

Jim, I think I've told this story on here before but, a friend of mine was on a submarine and they were headed to Perth for a 3 day shore leave. It was announced in the local papers and when they arrived, there were women lining the port. In 3 days, 3 guys got married somehow and 2 more got engaged. Love at first sight? or 3 day sight? LOL :)
This was back in the mid 1980's.

Mate, the Women still line the streets when the USN ships come in... the lads must think all their christmas have come at once. We had the USS Carl Vinson in at Freo last year and it was pandemonium, one of my work mates used to be on it when he was in the USN and he was telling me about his various port calls . It certainly makes for a good night out when you've got 5000 blokes looking to party.

On another note we are located about 40 miles outside of Perth to the East which is a nice quiet change from when we used to live in the suburbs....

Been to Perth/Fremantle many times. Once while attached to the USS Enterprise, was adopted by a aussie family for a few days had the time of my life being shown around the city, playing golf and even given a tour to see the American Cup.

Welcome to TBN. I have been in Perth many times in past 20 years. I do a lot of work for oil and gas so I was usually on my way to Karratha in Pilbara or south to Kwinana.
One time I was released from my job but the client insisted I stay in the area on standby for some time. My wife flew in and we did some driving in the desert east of Karratha and then around Perth. We stayed in nice B&B in Kalamunda. Australia is my favorite country to visit. Great country and great people.
