This question is about what to do with the Onan on the 420 LG. it still runs great, but , I have an oil leak and almost 1500 hrs on it. It is expensive to re-build the Onans, but It's 2K for a Honda repower. I like the idea of keeping it original!

The engine in my 316 let go (broke a rod) about a month ago. It really didn't have a lot of hours (1100) considering what some owners get out of these things. I'm thinking because of it being kind of abused/neglected, by it's 2nd owner. I'm the third owner, and when I got it,if a fluid could leak it did. Just about everything hydro and oil related leaked on this thing. Plus,he let his daughter cut the grass with it,so I'm certain the oil light coming on all the time wasn't a big concern.:(

Anyway,I wasn't sure at first what to do either. Checking prices I found most all the options were around the same price. I decided on a rebuilt Onan. ONAN LONGBLOCK
When I redid the tractor two years ago,I just about replaced everything that I could. So most all the components that bolt to the engine are only that old. No,it's not a "new" engine for that price, but for what I use it for,I doubt very much,I will ever come close to putting all those hours back on it. This 316 is probably going to outlast me.:D

That's awesome! I saw the website, I did not realize there was such a place for us guys that like the Onans. Isn't it a shame that people treat their mowers like they are just part of the landscape.

That is so true.

One other thing I left out which helped me make my decision to go with a rebuild,is the Onan itself. No other twin can match the torque/power that the Onan produces:thumbsup:......and I just love their sound. It is very unique to say the least.
