I have the chance to pick up a hesston 1070 haybine. I have not had much luck finding any info on them online. There were a few things I would like to know before making the trip to go look at the haybine.

Were they good machines?

When were they made?

What do they weigh ( ball park )?

What type of rollers did they use ? I have found post on other forums saying hesston's rollers were not known for delaminating like new hollands.

Are parts still available ?

thanks for the help

Thats the 7' cut isnt it? We had one. - Pulled it with the Kubots 2550 or 3450. - I was pretty pleased with ours until sickle bar wear began to cause worsening cut and buildup of poorly cut grass on the bar and subsequent jamming. This made cutting a LOT of work and correction of the issue was beyond my knowledge for pertinent and efficient actions. I sold it and bought a 60" drum mower. Lost the conditioning function but the cut is totally trouble free as fast as you want to go. ... Bottom line, if you get the Hesston right and figure out how to keep it that way you will be pleased.

Take a look in the AGRO parts book AGCO Parts Books
Looks like it was made between 1978 and 1983
Looks like a lot of parts are still available AGCO Parts Books

Hope this helps

I tried looking at AGCO's books but was unable to log in to get any info. The site said I needed to contact my dealer for log in info.

Yes the 1070 is a 7' cut.

I understand the sickle will probably give me fits at time. We have some fields with lots of clover early in the year we are unable to get dry when cutting with a drum mower. I would also like to start planting some legumes if I am able to get a haybine.

Im not looking to break the bank and this machine fits into my budget. I have not been able to find much on the weight of this unit. I plan to pull it with my Mahindra 3616 but I am not sure about weight.

That would enable me and my father in law to both start cutting and have all the hay down in about 8 hours.

Itll take a good sickle to cut the clover well. Always a damp crop and can get gummy if not cut nice and clean. This will in turn affect effectiveness of the sweep up to the rollers.

This one has steel rollers. How good are they at crimping the hay?

It's crazy that I can't find the exact weight of a 1070 anywhere online. I wanna make sure my Mahindra 3616 can pull it.

Id say 2500#. Our 25-30 pto HP Kub gear tractors pulled it fine at 3 to 5mph up and down medium grades. Its not so much the weight but the cut thickness and the roller setting. A tight roller setting takes more power. Im sure steel on steel work fine but noisy if tight. ... Ours had 1 steel and one hard rubber.

Probably be ok on fairly level ground. Any hills I'd want a little heavier tractor.
