Hey guys, I was wondering if you could use the "Herculiner" coating for an undercoat on a mid mount mower deck? Just curious. These mower decks are not cheap so I am trying to find a way to make the deck last a long, long time. By the way I'm trying to change my user name to 2320guy now that I have traded my x585 in for a 2320. Love the machine so far. The dealer didn't do a good job of setting up the 62D mower deck well. You pay 18K for a 2320 and few other attachments and you still end up bascailly doing the setup your self. Go figure! Yes, my user name is still x585guy but I do want to change it. I have emailed twice to the administrator about it and never heard back. I looked in the options and did not see any options to change so that was what I did.

Interesting idea. Don't know how much it will help. My guess is that the moving parts will likely wear out long before the steel rusts out.

Good idea as long as it does not crack and allow moisture under it. I would feel better cleaning it and painting every year....

I looked into doing this on my 345 with a 54" deck. A couple of notes:

-- The local applicator wanted the same price to coat my deck as he charges for a truck bed since he had to dirty his equipment, mix the solution, and clean his equipment. This was about $400 !! (I obviously didn't get it done).
-- When they do a truck bed the liner actually goes on smooth until the end when they apply a thin coat of "rough" liner to give you traction and keep things from sliding around. For a mower deck I would ask them to keep the finish smooth and not apply the rough coat.

Let us know how you make out .....

You're right in that there is no way for you to change your username yourself. Only Muhammad or Ibrahim can do that, and while I have nothing to do with the decision, I think that is generally discouraged. Picking a username related to the equipment you have might require frequent username changes for some folks.:D And keeping the username you have is certainly no problem.

How thick would the liner be? I had LineX in my truck bed and it wasn't thick at all, but I know that the Rhino liner is 0.5-1" thick. I don't know what the 'Herculiner' is... However, the cutting deck is designed to create a vacuum to raise the grass for cutting. Once cut, the deck shape redirects the clippings out the shoot. Undercoating with a thick layer of liner will probably cause some loss of vacuum, much like a dirty (or clogged) deck. Probably not much, but you might notice some dropoff in cut quality.

I don't think the coating would stay very long. The mower deck is kind of like a mini sand blaster and would eat the coating away. That and grass clipping might (don't know) stick to the liner causing flow problems?

Anyway, I think it would be a waste of good money.

Bad idea. You would want the underside of the deck to be as smooth and clean as possible to promotete good airflow, clipping dispersal. The blades, depending upon what you use, create the vacuum. Once you have a surface under there that will collect clippings and gunk, the deck will clog up fast and performance will suffer.

I have an MX-6 cutter which I used bed-liner on. I coated the forward top of the deck where I step from time to time doing maintenance and connecting and disconnecting the deck to the 3 ph. It works very well in that application protecting the deck and keeping me from losing my footing.

I also coated the underside, which was a mistake. There are tears in the coating and I now probably have a moisture trap in some areas--exactly the opposite of what I intended.

On this large a cutter, I doubt there's much if any effect on the aerodynamics of the cut.

Thanks, guys for all the different opinions. I will look into more and make a decsion. All different points of view on one subject is what I like about this site. You get all that info and now you have several options to choose from or reasons on why or why not doing it. Thanks again. Russ
