I am interested in a Yanmar 226D with a 5foot woods mower and a spreader (which I don't really have a use for). People selling it are asking 5200. It is in good shape. They said it was made in 1992. Didn't they stop production of them in 1983? And is this a fair price for the 4wd, 22hp tractor?
Thanks,

Jackie

My price book is several years old, but it shows the last year as 1989. Low $ 4580 High $ 5570.

Thanks Danny,
Any information is good information. Do you feel that they are good reliable tractors? My husband really liked it.. he said it rode well. Our one concern is that we need a snow plow for it... and we would rather have a front plow for it... but I don't think they make front plow attachments for it. Except for a modified front end loader.

Jackie,

I think that this is the same tractor that I just looked at the other day. It seems to be in very good shape for its age, not sure about the actual year it was built. I am actually looking to move up in tractor size to one that can take a front end loader, and I am not sure if one is available for this or not.
If you end up not buying this tractor, I have a 1999 Kubota diesel 18 HP. for sale with a 60" mower and a front snow plow and chains. Only has 300 HRS. on it and in excellent shape. I need to sell this before I can buy another, just let me know if you may be interested. Mike

Mike,
Your tractor sounds like something we may be looking for... where are you located... and what are you asking for it?

Jackie,

Thanks for the reply. Located in northern Harford Co. Maryland. I paid around 10,500 for the tractor new plus the snow plow and chains. I would like to ask $7,500. as it is like new and low hours. This is a large garden tractor in size with a diesel engine. The 60" mower is a mid mount that allows the use of a grass/ leaf blower attachment. This Kubota is heavy duty commercial grade in quality. Let me know-ok
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
I own 2 each 226 tractors, one 2wd, the other 4wd, they are very dependable tractors with surprising power. you will run out of traction before you run out of power. tractor seems to be just the right size, not to small, not to big, plenty of power for its size. Parts are readily available through several of the Yanmar dealers that post here.Have not really needed any however. Exellent parts and maintenance manuals for the do it yourself type. There are several companies that make ready to bolt on front end loaders for them(Allied, Bushhog and Koyker) If I am not mistaken a front plow was available for this model, maybe one of the dealers here can help you out with this. All with all a very sturdy and dependable tractor.
The price sound about right for a good shape 226d here in the midwest.

Thanks for the help, do you know what year they stopped making this model tractor? Also these are not the grey market ones are they? I really do need a loader for it and wasnt sure how hard one would be to find. The aftermarket ones are just as good. Is the transmission powershift ? Not real familiar with this type. I have a hydro now on my Kubota.
Thanks again.

The 3 number Yanmars are all made for the US market, partsupport is exellent for the tractors itself, parts for add-on items like powersteering, implements, loader etc are getting a little harder to find, but some can be obtained at your local Napa store. Not sure about the last year they made the 226, I read that 1989 was the last year Yanmar sold any tractors in the US. All 226 are powershift witha 3 range transmission and 3 forward and one reverse gears per range.
As far as FEL, the factory one was a serious heavy duty unit, the aftermarket units are pretty good, I don't think you will have any problem with them as long as you remember that it is a tractor and not a bulldozer or a skid-steer type.I have a Bushhog 1846qt on mine and in general am pretty happy with it, have a 48 inch bucket, but tractor will probably handle a 60 inch just fine.Just a very nice usefull little tractor
Thanks Pete
