Putting a liftmaster opener on Wayne Dalton door the door is a new install in a new home ... Everytime opener raises door the drum pawl will engage and then door will not come back down
My question is the counterbalance cable causing this...
seems right side of door when all tension is out of spring that cable seems loose maybe by a 1/2"to an 1"
Any help would be great keep following instructions but it keeps doing same thing.

Sounds like the trip limiters are not set right. And there should be very little play on the cables when down, should be taught.

If i'm reading this correctly, first things first. Open the door and adjust each cable drum so that all slack is taken up.
which model of dalton door do you have? Got a picture of the drum pawl?

And there should be very little play on the cables when door is UP on a torsion spring setup. When the door is down, spring tension is applied to the cables.

My first impression is to check the up travel. Like forementioned with the limiters. I'm not really informed on the torque master system but in traditional torsion system you really didn't want too much travel up due to slack in cable at full open of the door or cause back-winding of the springs. I agree with tlbuser when he says to do all your door adjustments with out the operator and then adjust the opener and door together. Again, not knowing about your door system but knowing about a traditional torsion system, when your door is properly adjusted, you should be able to raise it by hand to about waist high and it should hold itself without raising or lowering on it's own. All of this should be performed without the operator being connected, of course. You might want to start over on your tensioning sequence but first concentrate on proper cable adjustment. Let us know how it goes because I'm interested in this torque master system.

Had sim problem with opener recently. Wayne Dalton has had several different designs over the yrs. Mine has 2 tension springs, one on each end, adjd independently.

Cable was so loose cable got tangled around the drums. Straightened out the tangles, put the door down and increased tension and watched as I raised the door and made sure cable wrapped properly on the drums. Fine tuned the tension after raising the door so cable has just a little tension on them in the up position. When adj finished, made sure the jam nut on back side of the worm screw was tightened.

Referring to the pic, the hex head is not a bolt for attaching the mechanism to the wall. It is the drive on a worm screw for adj tension. There is a indexed wheel on the end of the shaft to help with tension. With the dual adjmt I made sure both ends were the same.

Door has worked well since afjmt made several months ago.

Thanks for all the replies.... One I was working on is close in design to Mickey_Fx photo... Tried to copy a portion of the manual but couldn't.
Today I went over and worked on adjusting one more time... I tightened the lift cables.. and found the latch unit stuck in the closed position ... so everytime door went up it would keep door from going down..
Just glad I was able to get it working.. and again thanks to everyone for there help..
