Help with Tiller Attachment

I have no knowledge of the tiller you posted, but I’m going to suggest another approach. I have a 50x100’ garden and for years I had a 54” tiller that I used to prep the soil before planting. It worked great for that purpose but was only a once per year activity; I couldn’t use the tiller to maintain the garden after planting. So I sold the tiller and bought a Fred Cain cultivator to use to deep plow the soil at the beginning of the season, then I bought a DR rear tine walk behind tiller for final soil prep. The walk behind tiller allows me to cultivate weeds between the rows during the growing season. I like this approach better and the walk behind tiller is easy to use for soil prep after the cultivator plows the soil.

The problem with tractor cultivators is they are practical for a small garden. The tractor works fine for start of the season soil prep, but after that the tractor needs to stay out of the garden. The walk behind rear tine tiller is ideal for growing season maintenance. Those tractor cultivators are best for larger fields where the rows are spaced accordingly.

I don't know anything about that brand, but, I will say that I learned a long time back not to buy light duty anything!

as for how to do it, well everyone's method isn't necessarily what's best for the next one. I mean someone doing a 40 x 40 garden isn't necessarily going to be best served doing it the same way someone doing one 2 1/2 times that size....

I personally loved having a tiller for my tractor, until I broke it and instead of fixing it, sold it to a friend who wanted it. I don't have time for a garden this year, so I'll wait until off season and get another, hopefully find a good one at a little less money. The one I had was an Italian made Agris I think it was? I made enough doing gardens and food plots for people the first two years I had it to more than pay for it. I didn't just use it for gardens either, great for leveling out the yard, flower beds, etc....

I agree that a pto tiller is a fantastic attachment and I too used it also to establish my lawn, in addition to gardening. But I found it to be a once in the year tool most of the time, then I had to hand hoe weeds and cultivate throughout the growing season because the tractor and tiller wouldn’t work in a planted garden; my walk behind tiller will work and will greatly cut down on hand cultivation. If I had a half acre garden with very wide spaced rows, my approach would be to stay with the pto tiller.

once in the garden, yeah I see that. but as mentioned there are a lot of other uses for it through out the year. as for your spacing, I agree with that. if I had enough room to be able to space the rows enough to get in there with it I would! I typically space enough to be able to get my walk behind tiller in for maintenance

I looked at Toolots tillers last year but the many, many negative reviews of the company made me change my mind. I settled on a King Kutter because I know I can get parts if needed.

Just make sure the tiller is wide enough to cover the tractor's tracks. 54 inch tractor width and a 53 inch tiller will leave compressed soil from the tire you cannot cover with the tiller.
