I have 2 older snappers.
I am trying to freshen up the "newer" one so I can start mowing. It was my grandfathers and he believed it was a 1998 or some year around there. Its a 30" mower with a 9 HP B&S Power Built motor (28B702). His local mechanic claimed the head was bad on the motor so its been sitting for some time. I pulled the head but everything looks fine except for some carbon build up (quoted him $1000 for a new engine - probably just trying to screw an old man). I figured I would just slap a new motor on it, and replace the parts I can identify as bad. I figured some tires and a new belt were a must. The axle boots are also completely blown out. Everything else appears to be in decent shape. I can not read the data sticker so I have no idea what model it is to order parts for. I have included a photo of the mower and another of whats left of the data sticker.
I also have a way older snapper with the white handle bars. I can not find any identification on it at all. Its got a 8 HP B&S but that is a replacement motor sometime in the late 80's. Its in pretty rough shape and will be a later project. I might do something ridiculous and slap a V-twin on it.
Any help with identification or general information would be greatly appreciated.
