Help with general info on an older Case 590 Backhoe please!!

I have recently acquired an older model Case 590 Construction King. Guessing its a early 90s model, swing pedals in the floor, 3 stick. Cummings turbo 4cyl with 4x4. I only see one place for hydraulic oil to be filled, cant find a dipstick for the transmission, there's only a sight glass on the RH side near the lift arm, does this tractor have one tank for all the hydraulic including the transmission? Also where would the serial number be located to identify year make and model?

I'm not really familiar with 580s or 590s, but most modern backhoes have separate transmission and hydraulic systems, unlike a compact or utility tractors. The tank on the side is hydraulic fluid for the loader and backhoe.

You found the site glass, now you'll need to find the drain and fill ports. I can't remember if our Cat 416 had a site glass or a fill port to check. Note that most will have separate filters too. The Cat had a spin on filter underneath for the trans.

You should find a nameplate on the frame of the machine (around the loader arm pins??) or maybe on the steering column shroud.

On a 580K it's (serial #) below the left hand door on the chassis. Mine uses hydraulic oil for both. Correction, the book states Hytran Ultra Plus (Ms1207) for the transaxle. There is a dipstick for the transaxle under your feet when running the hoe. It's under the floor mat and a metal plate. A 590 could be totally different.

Both the 580 and 590 use the same oil for everything- Case TCH or “Universal tractor fluid” from any supplier.

Yeah I will have to check further on the machine...it does have a spin on trans filter underneath and a hyd filter too..but I swear I cant find a dipstick or sight glass

On my 580K the power shuttle dipstick is located on the right side, under the hood. The transaxle dipstick is on the floor right at the seat and the sight glass for the main hydraulics is on the right side of the machine below the loader arm. There are two separate hydraulic fills on the loader and the power shuttle. The main fill port is under a flip top where the fuel goes and the power shuttle you fill it at the tube where the dipstick is. Hope this helps.
