Hi. Been reading here for a while but have a problem. I have a Kubota B6200. Don't know how old. 80s probably. Battery won't charge, charge light won't come on, fuel gauge doesn't register. Runs OK and starts if the battery is charged. I figured bad regulator and got a new one.

Can't get the dash off to replace it. Assuming I can pull the steering wheel, the throttle lever goes through the side of the dashboard. Have to remove the throttle lever. Looks like I need a socket wrench with a 3-foot extension so I can get in sideways and remove the nuts that hold the lever. Very annoying. Not enough space to get my hands in there. Any advice from somebody who has done this? Easier way? Thanks.

Hmm.. no charge lamp?

I've never worked on a new orange tractor.. just old orange tractors..but i know on a ford, the power for the charge lamp comes from a fuse going to the dash cluster.. with that fuse blown.. charge lamp won't come on ... should light up at pre-start with key on to let you know lamp is ggod.. same with oil idiot lamps.. on with key, off with oil pressure and charge volts.

are you not seeing this? easy to test with a test lamp, and / or grounding wires after the lamps.. etc.

post back..

I checked the usual stuff. There's only one fuse in the whole machine and it's OK. Starter works, lights work. There's a chance is a bad ignition switch with no aux power going out or possibly a bad regulator. Either way I need to get behind the dash to check it out. The design is horrible. Can't get your hands into the 3 inches between the dash and firewall. The steering wheel goes through the dash so it has to be pulled and it's stuck. The throttle lever goes through a bushing in the side of the dash so it has to come off. Held in by 2 nuts way up in there and hard to see and blocked by wires and junk. If I can unscrew those nuts, it won't be fun to put them back.

I'm thinking of just cutting a slot in the dash so it lifts off without removing the throttle lever.

If your B6200 is like my B7100 and has a dynamo (mounted where you would expect to find the water pump) instead of an alternator, the charging circuit is also controlled by the light switch. Lights off is low charge and lights on is high charge. I am not sure if you tractor is like mine or not but the light switch was bad on my tractor when I got it and that is why my battery would not charge.

Interesting. I'll look at that. I have an operator's manual for a 6200 but don't know if the wiring diagram actually applies to my model. Mine is older. It has a dynamo. I've been poking at it this morning and it's acting odd. Hazard lights won't work anymore and headlights won't work. Fuses OK. Got power on the load side of the fuses. Acc position on the switch has power. Glow plugs work. Starts OK if I keep the battery charged with a charger but it isn't charging off the dynamo. I'm about to get out the 10-pound sledge and oxy torch and give it a few gentle taps. Looking like a ground wire is missing or something like that.

In case anybody needs to do this, I fixed it. Pull steering wheel - make special U-shaped chunk of metal so gear puller will fit over annoying triangular hub on wheel. Put enough torque on it to shear the pins on the puller. It all flies 2 feet in the air when it pops off and hits you in the head. Get a 2-foot extension for the socket so you can undo the double nuts that hold the throttle lever. Don't drop the spring washer and nuts in the grass when you pull the throttle out. Now the dash comes off. Then you can replace the regulator and find the half-dozen wires that have broken off inside the connectors and fix those too. Then you find the fuse holder that looks fine but has a weak spring and doesn't actually make contact. Put it all back together and you're done. Would have been a half-hour job if the moron tractor designer put an access panel where one belongs.

There's plenty of moron designers out there.

Every time i service my yerfdog CUV.. you have to virtually disassemble the back half the machine to change the oil.. if you decide to service the air filter.. rear tire has to come off and then you have to ly at some odd angle and use 5 differnt size screwdriver to get at the 47 screws that hold the lil palstic air cleaner housing together.. and about 32 of the screws are obstructed by frame members..

You can do this job at night or inthe day.. don't matter much.. as you can't see any of the &^$ screws anyway.. have to do it all by feel!
