Well guys, a few days ago I managed to get the back hoe stuck. I was trying to get it out and noticed fluid spraying so I turned her off and gave up for the day. It was impossible to work on it where it was sitting so about an hour ago I paid to have it towed out. After inspection I noticed two of the bolts holding the pressure compensator were snapped off. I managed to find one of the bolts and confirmed by the threads that it had indeed snapped off and not back out. (its the two bolts on the side not shown in the pic. If looking at pump from the front they are on the left). (PUMP IS ONLY 3 WEEKS OLD)

I would like to ask what in the world could cause this but I can only assume that my dumb *** has the pressure up WAY to high (see previous threads if you are new to my antics). The gauge only reads about 2500 PSI at the highest point. Since I am new to hydraulics I would think if the gauge only reads 2500 then thats what the system puts out. Is it possible that the compensator is only letting the pump put out 2500PSI, but the way I have it adjusted has the pump pressure higher? I know what I said sounds confusing... Any help??

If the gauge in the pressure line shows 2500 PSi and the gauge is accurate that is all the pump is producing at that time. What pressure do you see when you dead head a function? I.e. curl the loader bucket back and hold that function.

Is it possible the bolts where stessed by over torque or the compensator be struck in shipping? Was it used as a handle or support/prybar during installation. I know from experience anything that hangs out is a handle when hunched over working on equipment.

Typically there is a small O-ring sandwiched between the compensator and the pump housing. This is the only area that is exposed to high pressure.

Being it is Cat the odds are pretty good the bolt is metric..

The pump was new, but fedex lost it for about a week and beat the crap out of it while that had it hidden somewhere.... The gauge reads 2500 when I hold any function. Was not used as a handle or pry area during installation. I would have thought if the bolts were stressed they would have broken long before now, but I could be wrong.... I guess I just need to unbolt the compensator and see where that gets me....

Over torqued bolts could make'em crack the threads when they valve housing get pressurized...It should not caused by the pressure setting it self...that pump should be able to handle way more than 2500psi

I finally had time to mess with it today.... Wasnt too bad to get everything off. Once I got the compensator off the two broken bolts came out extremely easy. Of course the bolts have to be ordered if i get them from cat as its a non stock item. The existing bolts are allen head. Will I have any problems if I get some regular hex head grade 8 bolts to put it back together?

Like AKKAMAAN said, that pump should be able to develop more presure. There is probably a relief valve somewhere set to 2500 psi. Where did you install the gage? It should be before the first valve in the system, as other valves downstream could have different reliefs for a particular circuit. Check those bolts to see if they are Metric.

They are metric

Is that a Allen head FLANGE bolt or regular Allen head with or with out washer??

I think you can get a useful bolt at Fastenal or other good hardware store for 10 cents per dollar....Original CAT parts are expensive....If you cant get exact same shank-thread length combo, you can always cut threads on a longer bolt...

Gotta be high grade steel bolts, at least SAE grade 8 or IF it is METRIC grade 10.9.....Allen head is needed where the bolt head is recessed....Torx head can work too.... Just bring the compensator housing and the broken bolts as sample, to the store...make sure you get the appropriate threads, length, shank and a head that fit on the hosing...
