Hello. I have been lurking around on this forum for the past couple of weeks. I am looking for a tractor so I can use a 2 bottom plow and a 6 ft disc. Also light brush hogging and deffinately to harley rake and landscape my 2 acre lawn. I have read all the threads on the 3750 but still would like some opinions. The particular tractor in question has 4600 hours on it and has the shuttle shift. Also four wheel drive. Pretty sure it spent most of its life on a farm. Not sure of the year. It comes with the loader in the pics but not the box blade. I am interested in a quick lesson on what to look for when shopping for this particular model. Any particular probelms I need to look for? What should my checklist be when I look it over? As you can see it is in pretty rough shape and the hours are high. It seems a common problem revolves around the shuttle shift. Can I get a decent indicator of its condition without tearing it down? What is the price range for a tractor with these options and in rough shape? I know these are hard questions w/o the unit right in front of you. I have tried to give all the information I could think of and your opinions are valued and appreciated. Thanks. K.

4600 is a lot of hours. Unless it is dirt cheap the likelihood of a total rebuild is looming. The clutch would be of particular concern.

Pulling a two-bottom plow will definitely show whatever weakness there is in the machine.

Unless every maintenance record is available and those records show the work was done as scheduled it may be better to let it pass.

If you have the serial number a Kubota dealer can come up with some information on the tractor.

Hydraulic shuttle-good, Faded to Kubota pink-bad, 4600 hours-a lot, Would have to pick it up really cheap to feel ok. Look for seals leaking in the front axle and anywhere else for that matter. Check to see if the bushings in the loader are worn. Look around for a unit with a lot less hours. Does it have the wet ever-clutch? From the pedal I would guess not. It is around 20 years old. I would be real careful. I will go out on a limb and say no more than 5 grand, less than that and you are in good.

I have owned an L3750 for about 6 months now. They were made starting in 1984 so it may be old, but these are legendary for their durability and capability. This is the first of the LXX50 models that helped Kubota build it's reputation. The three tractors in this first series are L3350, L3750 and L4150. A few years later, they became L4350, L4850 and L5450. Perform a search on any of these models and you'll find a wealth of information that will help with your decision.

As for known problems, the paint on this generation is known to fade to the dull shade of orange in your pics. The shuttle came in two versions, either a dry mechanical type or wet hydraulic. The hydraulic is preferred since it is very long lasting. Also, the hydraulic pump is a little slow for loader or backhoe use unless it has the optional pump that is mounted in front of the radiator and is powered by a driveshaft coming off the crank pulley. The front axle bevel case seals are known to leak, but they can be readily repaired as detailed in posts on this website. My local dealer told me that most, if not all, parts are still available and I was able to get the few things I needed for mine.

The engine is a 5 cylinder that is strong, smooth and long running. Many here suggest a life of 10,000 hours or more if given proper maintenance.

The power and the weight of the tractor allowed Kubota to rate it for a 2 bottom 16" plow and disc widths of 7' if 3 point or 8' pull. Owners report that these models can typically handle the rated implements easily as opposed to just barely.

If you don't mind the faded paint and age, it could be an excellent unit for thousands more hours - but be sure to do the usual checks as detailed in many other posts or have it inspected by a knowledgeable mechanic.

Have fun with your search!
