This old hay rake came with the property. It seems in working order except for the broken drive chain. It is a 4 wheeler wheel driven, with open gears. There are traces of yellow paint on the wheels. I'm wild guessing maybe it's a Minneapolis Moline product but not sure how to verify. was hoping for a positive ID and an idea of the original paint sceme?

I could be a MM. I'm restoring an old MM P3-6 grain drill this month. I bought two of them a few months ago (one is the primary unit, the other is the spares unit) for $275 from a neighbor.

This drill has steel wheels with similar yellow paint to what's on that rake. And the main frame is painted red.

That chain looks pretty much like the chains on the drill's trip clutches.

According to the MM collectors website

http://www.minneapolismolinecollectors.org/files/MM_PAINT_TAKE_16.pdf

several MM rakes had yellow wheels: the OAC dump rake and the CR2 and CR3 pull type rake. These rakes all had red frames.

Your rake looks like it's a pull type side delivery rake. I don't think it's a dump rake.

Hope this helps.

Hi ! Very old implement. I own one as this one. The mine was International Harvestor Red and blue paint. for find the maker (look some casting part some letter may be can help). The cylinder can turn in two directions one is CCW slow for put hay in row or range. Other gear is CW more fast for turn hay (Very good) for drying hay. I use this implement for many years. Good Luck! Oldmech

Additional clues; (forgive my vocabulary, new to this) there are 3 "tine racks" on the "tumbler" one of the 3 spoke yokes has a casting number B103, there is a lever for adjusting the angle on the tines, a three position lever for two speed tranny and neutral, plus the usual height adjustments. I found casting numbers on various parts; wheel HI 954, axle brackets; B134,B128, the large gear bears # B185. I hope this helps, this being my first ever attempt at identifying and maybe restoring and old implement have no clue how to track this down.

As I said before the old rake has some flakes of yellow paint on the wheels. Today I scraped off some grease around the gears and found large patches of red paint beneath. If this is a MM rake then it would be all red with yellow wheels?

Looks to me like a Minnesota brand that I used to rake with back in the middle 50's. My dad bought one new in about 1949. If I remember correctly they were red with cream/yellow wheels.

Minnesota Prison Industries used to make mowers, rakes, hay loaders and twine if my memory serves me right.

I was raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania alot of years ago. I raked a bunch of hay with a rake just like this one. I do not remember the model number but it was made by Mc Cormick. The only difference I see is ours had rubber tires on it, but we had one for parts that was steel wheeled. Hope this helps you out?
