Help Hydro Transmission leak repair Cub 2155

Need advise! Could I not just remove the axle housing to repair the leaking of oil here around the axle (oil seal & bearing) as it comes out of the housing. Based on the diagram I don't see that one would need to remove the transmission from under the tractor. All replies greatly appreciated.

By the picture can't tell what is holding the axle in place. If you can pull the axle, then I would say you can put the seal in.
