Help! Farm Pro 2420 Starter Motor Keep Spinning Even Key is Off

Hey all, I'm new here and new to Chinese tractor. I have a little Farm Pro 2420, recently the starter keep on spinning even when the key is at off position and the tractor is turned off. Has anyone encountered this or can shed some light? It will keep spinning and the starter motor get very hot. Could it be bad or stuck solenoid that kept feeding power to the starter or bad ignition switch?

Sounds like a stuck solenoid but you should be able to test it and the switch at one time. Remove the switch wire first then reconnect the battery. If it cranks then the solenoid is stuck. If it doesn't, and reconnecting the switch wire causes it to crank then go from there.

You need to determine if the switch is providing a ground or positive to the solenoid. If ground, also look for a pinched or chafed wire grounding the solenoid.

Thanks for the advice, battery is dead but charging one tonight and will do the test tomorrow.

suspect the KEY SWITCH!

The starter solenoid is easily jumped to activate and test. The key switch? Not as easy to diagnose.

Yea, it's the most weird thing I've seen, normally it's the other way where there's nothing. When cold it seems okay until it heat up. Turn the tractor off and the starter race even though it doesn't engage with the flywheel. Either the battery die or it really heated up hot and something quit making contact. Then no click or sign of life until cool down.

temperature changes PLASTIC a lot! Heck, VW/ Audi key switches suffer exactly the same issues. No contact when the winter is cold, No release when the summer comes. A $30 switch module fixes it all.

I did the solenoid and starter jump with isolation of the switch. It start up every time. I've let it warm up before choking the motor out, with power attached it sits silently, the starter doesn't spin. I am not sure if that is long enough or not enough for the solenoid to heat up and acting out.

On side note, I also realized when taken the cables off from the solenoid, the main connection from the + terminal was loose. Not sure if that would caused anything. Perhaps maybe I should purchase a new replacement switch and solenoid to be safe and sure? Oh, and also my 1 year old battery died completely. The battery won't even charge, the charger doesn't detect the poles, so what ever happen cooked the battery.

I had a somewhat similar experience last year on my Jinma 284.

I would turn off the keyswitch and pull the shut-off switch. The tractor engine would stop, then immediately the starter would crank the engine over and the engine would start. After multiple times doing the same thing I let the tractor engine run and started looking at the wiring on the starter/solenoid.
There is a heavy cable that carries the prime current from the battery to the large terminal on the Solenoid. The bolt had loosened and that large wire was able to engage with the small terminal on the Solenoid that has the wire which leads to the keyswitch. So the cable from the battery was feeding current to both the small and large terminals of the Solenoid causing the continual restarting.
