Help disassembling Power Steering Cylinder on BX1830

Hello all. Pls help.

I have a BX1830 with around 600 hours on her and have the wandering steering problem. So, I bought the cylinder rebuild kit from Messicks.

I have the cylinder off of the tractor and on the workbench. However, I can't get it disassembled. I have tried putting a punch in the hole, but nothing is giving. Any thoughts?

looks like you need to remove the inside circlip retaining ring- are you sure that is a pin in that hole?

It looks like and internal locking ring. You can probably push the seal in a bit to get at the lock ring and dig it out. The hole in the outer collar is a punch hole to turn the collar out.

Thank you. I will try to push the contents in towards the center of the cylinder, while using a drift through the hole to push the ring towards the cylinder rod.

I'll let you know if that works.

That was it. Thank you!

I was able to push the seal towards the center of the cylinder, that freed up enough room to use a drive to push the round snap-ring towards in, out of the groove and dig it out of the cylinder.

Hopefully, I'll be able to push the heads out of each side. I'm hoping to use pneumatics to help with that (at least 1 side).

Please be cautious using air to assist in removing piston shafts. Many years ago, I saw a shop trying to separate a larger implement cylinder. A little air didn't work, more air didn't help, and a LOT of air shot the piston clear across the shop floor.......... Fortunately, no one hurt.
