Good afternoon all!

Live on 55 acres of mostly wooded family land with my wife (same house) and dad (about 100 yards through the trees). When I was a kid, dad had about 200 acres of mostly farm land so I’ve been operating various farm equipment since I was about 8 (which was a while ago). My dad has a Farmall H with a trip bucket loader and a 9N, both of which he’s had forever. To keep up with maintenance as we both get older, I added a Kubota L4701 HST, grapple, forks, WC68 chipper, and box blade to the stable. Of course dad already had a smattering of 3 point implements so we came to an agreement that I could use his implements without limit and he could use my Kubota and my implements without limit. Good deal for both of us. Having a modern tractor with a fully functional loader has been a pleasurable adventure so far. Difference between the Kubota v the Farmall and Ford is unbelievable. They sort of look similar from a distance but it’s night and day difference in maintenance, operation, and capability. Have about 175 hours on the Kubota after about a year of ownership and it’s been all good so far.

This is the second forum I’ve joined, mostly just to learn how to operate this newfangled Kubota. For instance I didn’t think about wearing out the PTO brake prematurely by not idling down before disengaging the PTO until someone mentioned in a post. The old tractors don’t have PTO brakes so never thought about it.

Kind of humorous to me, my brother purchased a small horse property shortly before I bought the Kubota and bought a 30hp JD gear drive with a pin on bucket to maintain it. We both bought almost simultaneously but didn’t discuss beforehand. For some unknown reason shortly after seeing my Kubota he traded his JD for a 50hp JD with HST and quick attach loader. . We both agree our childhoods would have been more pleasant and productive with something more similar to what we have now.

Anyway, good to be here to absorb the knowledge of more experienced owner/operators.
