Hello from Pa. Just got a Massey Fergusen 40 Industrial

Just got this tractor/loader. It's got the Perkins AD3 152 engine. Was looking for awhile for a tractor with this engine because I'm a bit familiar with it. Tractor has had a hard life but still runs strong and is reliable (so far) and the purchase price was good.
Only problem I see is that there isn't much info out there for this machine.I don't even have a M.F. dealer close to me to go there and ask questions....Dosen't look like there are alot of these out there and I would surely welcome any comments from other owners of this machine.

Hey there from Indiana. Work has a late 1950's Massey ferguson industrial 50 I believe it is. It has had a very abused life plowing snow and filling plow trucks with its loader. The poor thing had been started with spray paint so much the engines intake valves were full of different colors. The intake valves would not seat and the head was rebuilt.

My dad and I have a Ferguson 40 that's a really good machine!! I have a Massey mf25 diesel with a A4.107. Very good machine only made in France. Quite hard to find parts. But, if I look up the engine I can find parts for that engine all day long! 8 speeds forward and 2 reverse size of a 9n. More torque than larger gassers we have had in the past and runs a 5 foot brushhog well!

Here is some specs from what I can figure out. Your loader is a Massey 34. According to tractor data that would indicate that this is the larger loader for this tractor. TractorData.com Massey Ferguson 40 industrial tractor attachments information
I am guessing you have the 6 speed shuttle. it is important that the shifter boots are good on these because if they are ripped they will let water in the transmission. Seeing how yours has a 5 gallon bucket over the shifters I would also consider replacing the fluid in the tranny. Your tractor should have a live PTO on it judging from the shifter lever.

I am not knowledgeable enough to determine what the agricultural version of the 40 is. The 40 will differ from the ag tractor in the sheet metal and the front axle along with other small features. I do not think the ag tractors used a shuttle tranny either. For more information I would post this in the MF section as the construction section sees far less traffic.

The AD3-152 is one of the most popular agricultural engines ever made so parts are easy and cheap to find.
