Hello from France

I have found this forum after doing a search on Tufftorq trannies. I live in France for a lot of the time and bought a brand new JD x165 ride on last week to. Seems like a good piece of kit. However after just two and half hours of mowing the transmission sounds like a chopsaw cutting wood, should I be worried?

Any way I am looking forward to exploring this amazing forum which seems to have a enough information and resource on it to absorb a lifetime of reading.

As for your problems, may I reccomend to you looking at Index page - FrenchEntrée France Forum, and posts by pomhorn and others, on French Consumer Law. It is complicated and not buyer friendly with regards to shops being able to repair rather than replace 'lemons' and the timescales and options for rejecting a faulty item.

Hi, thanks. I bought the unit in UK. If necessary I'll remove the tranny and take it back at Christmas. The JD agent here thinks the noise is made by the transmission oil cavitating, which makes sense to me. That would indicate it was underfilled at manufacturing time, also something he has experienced. Since I had planned to replace the oil with 5-50 fully synthetic its no big deal, other than the time to remove the transaxle and turn it upside down to drain out the old oil (That's a Tufftorq procedure!)
Don't you just love these poorly thought design features.
