I currently live in the Syracuse NY area and recently purchased 25 acres in Chenango county. It's about 10 acres of meadow, probably less, and the rest wooded.

I'm not sure what we're going to do with the property yet, but at a minimum I want to keep the meadows mowed. We'll be camping on it in the short term.

I've never owned a tractor and know very little about them. However, I purchased a Yanmar YM165D compact tractor with a belly mower. I figured my first tractor won't be my last so may as well make a relatively low dollar mistake first. It seems to run well and appears to be in pretty good overall condition. Apparently it was used to mow a cemetery for the past 15 years. It has turf tires that need to be replaced. The sidewall on one of the rears is chewed up.

I'm considering putting AG tires on it instead of turf tires. At some point we will use the tractor for home gardening.

I'm assuming the belly mover will be inadequate, at least for a while until I get the meadow in better condition and mow it more regularly. The meadows have been used for hay for many years. From what I've read I think I'll be looking for a brush cutter.

The tractor may be a little small but I figure it will get the job done if I am patient and understand the limitations of a small tractor. I have more time than money at this point.

That's my story and I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time on the forum for a while.

Welcome to tbn. I grew up cny north of you. If you have meadows you wanted to mow, and all you have is a belly mower that uses belt.. and the meadow hasn't been maintained before or grew bushes tall grass I would get a bush hog and do your first run with that. Would save you problems with belly mower down the road. Good luck

I'm considering putting AG tires on it instead of turf tires. At some point we will use the tractor for home gardening.

Use this site (TBN) to research the tyres (and rims) that will provide you with the best, long term, option. R4 or the new R14 tyres may suit your needs and, yes, the present Turf tyre rims will not fit a R1 or R4 due to the width(s) of the tyres themselves.
