Hi there,

New to the site and the cool thing is that I am on my phone!:) I love technology. Anyway, I have read a few threads about lawn tractors and I am considering buying a commercial grade rider for my lawn care business. I have about $3-4k saved right now and set aside just for that but it seem that most commercial grade riders are quite expensive. I wouldn't be worried about earning the money back if I had to borrow the money to get the right one but I am not a fan of taking on debt for this business. I have considered buying used and am wondering what some might suggest. Questions I have is what things should I look out for such as how many hours on a machine is too many, etc.
Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Superman21,I bought a used 928D Grasshopper for $5000.00.I found it on Craigslist and checked it out before buying, also check local farm equipement dealers.Sometimes they have decent used mowers. russ

For commercial lawn care zero turn is the only way to go. How many hours is relative to how it was maintained. A machine with 1000 hours and great documentation may be a better deal than a machine with 250 and no records - compression tests, checking hydro fluid and overall appearance are great ways to at least manage the risk of a used machine. I personally like the Bobcat zero turns - I am also partial to some of the Deere units. It also matter what kind of yards you cut - postage stamp lots or estate lots - how many acres per week and any other chores you can sell to your customers - fert - aeration - snow removal - ect. Are you the only operator? More info will help get better answers.

I believe you got your answer. It is hard for anyone to suggest what is right for you. Do some research. Check out lawnsite.com There are alot of people there that are in the business.
