Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
I expect that the type of tire makes a difference in overall height but I am not sure I can find specs that state the difference for each tire.

I have a L3400 with R4s - no cab. Trying to find out how much more height a L4740 would be with a cab but with R1s.

Listed specs on the website say 85" for the L3400 but I imagine these are for R1s? L4740 HSTC seems to suggest 93.3" but again I imagine these are for R1's?

I am loosely pondering the idea of a L4740 HSTC. My excuse is it would be easier unloading round bales with it from the flat bed truck and trailer they are delivered in - I usually have some pain getting the ones on the second level as the bed itself is pretty high. It's not a huge issue but it is an excuse :)

Trying to figure out if the height difference is enough to make it an issue to fit under my pole barn where I bring the tractor in from time to time to clean out manure and such.

If someone has a L4740 with R1s and a cab - I'd sure appreciate if you could confirm what the height is.

Don't know the height of your L3400 and which R-4 tires you have but the catalog says the height of a L4740 with 14.9 x 24 tires (standard tire) is 93.3 inches with cab or 4 incles less than the ROPS version. The 14.9 x 24 tires standard on a L4740 have a load radius of 22.7 inches and the 17.5L x 24 R-4 tires I have on my L5740 have a load radius of 22.3 inches. The book says my L5740 has a cab height of 94.7 inches with its standard tires - 14.9 x 26 R-1 which have a 23.0 load radius. I have measured the height of my garage door - exactly 96 inches. The tractor fits inside with over an inch clearance. The specalog shows the L4740 is 1.4 inches lower than the L5740. I don't have the exact configuration you are looking for but hope these numbers help.

Thanks MHarryE. I measured my pole barn entrance and with straw on the ground I have 93" to work with at most. Too low for a L4740. Not that I have convinced my wife or really justified it yet :-(. I think the L4240 is just slightly lower in height and might fit.

Just a suggestion. Go to the website TractorData, com. Insert it in your PC,s favorites bar. The info will be useful many times and will readily be available quickly by using this method. GOOD LUCK and HAPPY TRACTORING.

You might find a used one with half the tread worn off... probably would just fit.

Seriously, it sounds like your clearance isn't quite enough to allow for a cab. The folding ROPS approach would seem to be an alternative although it's definitely not as nice.

How much work is it to increase the entrance height? I think if it were me I would look pretty hard at doing that before I let it dictate which tractor I could buy.

It may be a huge pain, I'm just asking..

I just think you are in need of an excuse to raise your pole barn a few inches, totally unrelated to getting a new Kubota of course.

You guys are hard core.

I didn't even think that would be possibility- but I'm not the most ingenious of people in building/modifying things. I think a L4240 would fit nicely.

I've also since found that the old GL series had less height so I might keep any eye out for used machine from that series. Even the L5030HSTC I believe is < 90 inches.

Plus I am measuring things from the top of the straw pack in the pole barn to entrance. I probably don't have to put the straw all that far out. It is only right at the entrance I am limited in height.

Actually, we lowered the floor in one pole building when there was a clearance problem. OK, it was a smaller shed with a dirt floor, but it was much easier than jacking it up higher. :D Have to agree that the building should fit the tractor, not the other way around.

One thing to remember is depending how it's building is built when the ground freezes it could make your opening smaller.
