Haven't really needed a hedge trimmer until now but now I do. I'm thinking battery powered because of where I will use it but I need one that has a good battery life, can handle at least 1", at least 24", reliable and good price.

Anyone have recommendations?

Thanks

If you already have battery powered tools I’d suggest seeing if that brand and voltage has one rather than getting something else.

I’m looking at getting the Ridgid one to match all my other battery tools.

I still have the old 18V DeWALT tools and a cheap harbor freight chainsaw/pole that actually works pretty good.

I was thinking about replacing my DeWALT tools at some point and I'm open to other brands.

I did see a pretty good deal on a Ryobi 40V 26" hedge trimmer with brushless motor and 2Ah battery/charger for ~$210.

If you have a gas trimmer capable of accepting attachments, you could buy this hedge trimmer attachment. Amazon.com

I bought it to see if I could cut down a briar patch. Works for that. The long reach also makes it a good hedge trimmer for tall hedges, too, but it can get tiring to use.

I would bag the 18 volt system. They make an adapter that will let you use 20 volt batteries in the 18 volt system. The reason I say this is the 18 volt are nicad and the 20 volt are lithium ion and last much longer.

Thanks!

After reading the suggestions and thinking about it I decided to go with the brand that I currently have for cordless tools (DeWalt) because when I do replace my old 18V DeWALT tools I will probably buy DeWALT again. DeWALT just came out with new cordless tools that includes a 26" 60V brushless hedge trimmer and has the kit that includes the 6Ah battery and charger for $309 at Tool Nut.

Ridgid has a hedge trimmer?

Yes 18 volt
Interesting. I recently looked to see if they had one but didn't come up with anything. Must not have looked hard enough, lol I have some Ridgid stuff and really like it and they stand by their warranty. Recently had 18 year old batteries and a drill fail and they replaced them without question.
